The Sounders team that we all love was out there finally tonight, but it was just a little too late. Yes, the Sounders won the game, but they lost the battle to the Galaxy, who now will go on to face the Houston Dynamo for the MLS Cup. A sad end to a great season, one that came prematurely once again.

For the first time in their short history in the MLS, the Sounders will be advancing in the playoffs, and now will face off against the Los Angeles Galaxy in a two leg aggregate goal playoff series to determine who will represent the west in the 2012 MLS Cup Final.

Once again the Sounders were foiled by excellent goal keeping, this time it was Nick Rimando of RSL who stymied the Sounders from the scoring sheet. The series resumes now in Sandy, Utah next week with the win or go home scenario.

The Sounders will be without star striker Eddie Johnson for the first leg, so they will need to look to Freddy Montero and company to get the Sounders up in this two leg playoff series. RSL holds the season head to head with one win and two draws, plus they beat the Sounders last year in the playoff.

First was Eddie Johnson going down with injury, second was the loss of the match itself, and third was the loss of second place in the final conference table heading into the playoffs. Galaxy keeper Josh Saunders was the man of the match, keeping out a multitude of excellent scoring chances by the Sounders.
