The win also gave the Sounders a spot in the playoffs and the Cascadia Cup, which is a competition between the teams in the northwest of the Sounders, Whitecaps, and Portland Timbers.

The Whitecaps took control of the game from the opening whistle pressuring the Sounders’ defense almost connecting on a shot in the 12th minute before opening the scoring in the game in the 22nd minute when Camilo Sanvezzo fired a shot in the bottom left corner past Kasey Keller.

Brad Evans knotted the score at one apiece when he connected on a penalty shot when Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit was called for a hand-ball to save a sure goal with G Joe Cannonout of position. The score would remain at 1-1 entering the half.

Brad Evans helped the Sounders defeat the Whitecaps 3-1

In the 62nd minute Seattle’s Fredy Montero intercepted a pass and then found the back of the net on a left footed volley and then only 4 minutes late scored again beating Cannon in the top right corner. Keller was not tested for the rest of the match except for a solid save in the 72nd minute to maintain a 3-1 lead, which would stick.

For the match it was pretty even both teams had 16 shots and each goalie made 8 saves.

Next Up: Seattle heads across country to play New England on October 1st to plat a Revolution squad that has the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The Sounders are in good position as it stands and in their last 4 MLS matches they only face one team with a winning record.
