Sounders 2-0 Galaxy
On a Wednesday night showdown on the XBOX pitch, the Seattle Sounders finally beat their nemesis L.A. Galaxy at home for the first time in their four year existence.
And what a difference a healthy team makes. With the addition of Mauro Rosales back in the lineup, the Sounders look like the team that started off this season.
Eddie Johnson is finding his fitness as well, netting two goals in two consecutive games now.
Montero finally scores
After going the first six games without a goal, Fredy Montero is finally on the scoring sheet! He was relentless tonight. Perhaps he knew tonight was his night to score, because he had several golden opportunities before he finally did put it in.
If you were watching this game, the few chances that he had that didn’t go in looked a lot more promising than the one he did put in.
A shot that must’ve been 40 yards out, Montero lofted it high above the retreating keepers head, and into the corner of the net. A truly beautiful goal, and one that we will see again and again in the future.
Tag team clean sheet
It isn’t often that you see a halftime substitution for a keeper in a non friendly match, but tonight coach Sigi Schmid was forced to bring in Bryan Meredith for the second half as Michael Gspurning went off with an injury.
In Meredith’s first MLS appearance with the Sounders, he was forced to make only one save, a shot right at him that he corralled in like a seasoned veteran.
This game was filled with a lot of non hate on my part, so this is kind of a stretch, but the injury to Michael Gspurning is something that I do hate.
Our top flight keeper is the glue that holds our team together, let’s hope that he will not miss an extended period of time with this set back.
Arena’s gutless move
OK, so we finally beat LA in our house, but was it really the LA team that we wanted to beat?
Maybe Bruce Arena was a little timid with the mid-week match up in Seattle. Or maybe he just doesn’t respect our team the way that he should.
Regardless, he fielded a team that resembled a reserve team squad more than the defending MLS Cup winning squad. No Beckham, no Keane, no Saunders, and Buddle only played for about 30 minutes.
A win is a win, and three points are three points, but c’mon Bruce. Are you that afraid of us that you have to basically forfeit the match before it even starts?
And this is why he is no longer the coach of the US National Team. It’s gutless calls like this that end up losing you games.
