Kasey Keller Moves to the Sounders FC Broadcast Booth

New era begins

It will be strange not seeing G Kasey Keller in goal for the Seattle Sounders this upcoming season, but instead of seeing him you can hear him and see him in a suit since he will be moving from the pitch to the broadcast booth.

The club recently announced that the legendary American goalie will be the Sounders‘ analyst on all of the radio and TV broadcasts for the upcoming season.

The Sounders will have a whole new broadcast crew, as not only Keller joining the booth, but Arlo White left to become the announcer for MLS coverage on NBC and will be replaced by play-by-play announcer Ross Fletcher.

After a great career for the Sounders, as well as internationally, Keller retired this last season after Seattle lost in the playoffs. His final 3 years of his storied career was in goal with the Sounders and he started the very first Sounders’ game and this last season was a stellar one where he was voted the MLS goalkeeper of the year.

He will be missed on the pitch, but Seattle still has high hopes this season where they look for their first MLS title.

Get ready to see the lighter side of Kasey Keller

Fletcher knows the game of soccer, or as he refers to it football, as he has spent the last 5 years working as a soccer commentator and reporter for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

He will be the new voice of the club while Keller will handle the color commentary.

Fletcher has never met Keller, but he is still looking forward to working with arguably the best American goalie of all time.

Fletcher stated about working with Keller, “He is well renowned in England.

It’s going to be fantastic working with him.

He knows the stuff and he has the authority.  He’s been there, done that and got the t-shirt. It’ll be a great chance to get a bit of banter going and keep that relationship with the fans.

It may just be me and Kasey talking, but we are talking with the fans and to the fans directly and maintaining that three-way conversation.

I think it’s going to be a heck of a lot of fun.”

With Keller gone and 2 starting defenders no longer on the team the main questions for the Sounders this season is on the defensive side of the pitch, but the offense is still loaded and Seattle is one of THE teams to beat in the MLS in 2012.
