Sounders 2-0 FC Dallas
In a short week with games bookmarked on either Saturday of this Wednesday night affair, the Seattle Sounders rolled out a back-up squad with hopes of playing for a draw.
With a few notable names not making the starting eleven, it took a bold second half substitution for coach Sigi Schmid to put the Sounders over the top.
With another strong performance from Bryan Meredith in net, the almost starless team pulled off yet another shutout, and compiled their fifth win in a row.
As everyone knows, when Fredy scores, he scores a ton. And within a few minutes of each other, he had netted two goals to take the lead, and the win.
The first one was on a pass by rookie Cordell Cato, which Montero had to fend off a couple defenders before turning and beating the keeper on the near post.
His second goal was a low cross, that Montero had to lay out flat for, and with a diving header, nailed the ball past the keeper. Both goals were things of beauty.
It took a while, but speedster Cordell Cato finally got to make his MLS debut on Wednesday night. With so much talent up front this year, it may be a while until he see’s anymore action though.
He looked great too! Delivering the pass on the game winning goal had to be a boost to his psyche, and definitely something to add to his highlight reel at home.
Lack of discipline
The Sounders had a combined four yellow cards in tonight’s match. It could be that the referee, who was in his very first MLS game, could have been a little whistle crazy in trying to establish himself in this league.
But one thing is for sure, thanks to a hasty quick re-start in stoppage time, Jeff Parke was spared a red card. That would have been a blow to the Sounders for sure, especially with the injury to Patrick Ianni during pre game warm ups.
So another game, and another win for the Sounders. I’m getting pretty used to this winning stuff.
A huge test for the Sounders up next though; Real Salt Lake at home, 7:00.
Game is on KING 5.
