MLS Soccer: Whitecaps

The Sounders are sitting pretty, as it looks like they are a lock to end the season in 2nd place in the Western Conference, as they are 7 points behind L.A. and 6 points clear of Real Salt Lake.

Upcoming Match

On Tuesday October 4th the Sounders will host the Chicago Fire at CenturyLink Field for the final of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. A win by Seattle in that match would give the Sounders the Open Cup title for the 3rd straight season.

Recent Results

In their last MLS match the Sounders came back from being down 1-0 to beat the New England Revolution on the road 2-1 with 2 goals from Fredy Montero. Montero now has a goal or an assist in the last 6 Seattle matches and in that span he has 5 goals and 3 assists. As the post-season approached the Sounders have to be happy with their recent play, as they have won 5 of their last 6 matches and they have won their last 4 road matches. In their last 6 matches their offense has been playing well scoring 16 goals.

International Round Up

On September 27th the Sounders played to a 2-2 draw against Comunicaciones in a wet and soggy match held in Guatemala. Taking away a point in that match means that the Sounders will make it out of Group D in the CONCACAF Champions League advancing to their very first knockout phase in that competition.

Sounders owner Joe Roth stated,

Voting closes October 7, 2011″We are committed to serving our community. What makes these three players stand out is the quality and quantity of time they spend above and beyond the community activities organized by the team. They have made an impact.”
