MLS Soccer: Sounders
It looks as if the Sounders will finish the season in the 2nd spot in the Western Conference, as they are 6 points behind L.A. and 6 points clear of Real Salt Lake.
The Sounders host the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday October 15th and then finish the MLS season facing Chivas USA in an away match on October 22nd. The last match on Saturday is a big one not so much for the standings, but it will be star goalie Kasey Keller’s last regular season MLS match, as he is retiring after this season. There have already been an astounding 60,000 tickets sold for that match.
In their last match on October 8th the Sounders lost to the Philadelphia Union at Qwest Field. Seattle came out flat in the match, which did not mean much in the standings, and it is not surprising they did so since they were without their top 3 scorers.
On October 4th the Sounders captured their 3rd straight US Open Cup with a 2-0 over the Chicago Fire in front of 35,615 at Qwest Field.
International Round Up
On September 27th the Sounders played to a 2-2 draw against Comunicaciones held in Guatemala. However, even with the draw Seattle made it out of Group D and because of that made it to their first CONCACAF Champions League knockout phase.
GK Terry Boss (concussion), MF Michael Seamon (lateral ankle tendon), MF Steve Zakuani (R leg fracture), and FW O’Brian White (leg surgery) are all Out while MF Mauro Rosales (R knee MCL sprain), DF Jeff Parke (concussion) are both questionable for Saturday’s match.
