Seattle Seahawks Fantasy Forecast – Week 1
Week 1 of the NFL season is here and now is time to talk about how your Seattle Seahawks will fare in the world of Fantasy Football. There certainly isn’t Gold on the roster but a close examination reveals some OK options on the offensive side of the ball.
Tarvaris Jackson– 30 rush yards – 175 pass yards, 2 touchdowns – Tarvaris Jackson is certainly a risky start this week – if you are starting him in Fantasy, I am truly sorry! He does know the offense but that is about all the positive we can take from his Week 1 start. Seattle passed for 285 yards and two scores with four interceptions in San Francisco last year though but Matt Hasselbeck was behind center.
Marshawn Lynch – 70 rush yards 10 receiving yards – Marshawn Lynch will get his chance to shine as the Adrian Peterson of this offense. But he certainly is not AP! Lynch, Justin Forsett and Leon Washington only totalled 76 yards on 20 carries in San Francisco last season – not all that appealing.
Lynch will get his touches however and if desperate he could be a start. I would stay away from Forsett and Washington for the time being.
The 49ers have a decent run defense particularly at home. Lynch will be OK but not great based on the number of touches he could see.
Sidney Rice – 50 receiving yards Rice is clearly the best receiving option for the Hawks but a shoulder injury just may limit his production. Tavaris Jackson also limits the Rice ceiling!
*** Update – Rice has been ruled OUT for Sunday****
Mike Williams – 65 receiving yards, 1 touchdown – Williams could be OK with Rice sitting out. He is a good possession type guy and could be the Red Zone target this week. Although I project him to have a good game, Williams is certainly a huge risk for your Fantasy squad.
Ben Obomanu – 30 receiving yards – There is not a whole lot of yards to go around but Obomanu will now be the third option behind Williams and Zach Miller.
Although the 49ers weakness on defense is the secondary, starting any Hawks WR is risky at best!
Zach Miller – 50 receiving yards, 1 touchdown – With John Carlson out for the season, Zach Miller becomes the unquestioned TE1 in Seattle. Miller was the leading receiver in Oakland and could become a favourite target for new OC Darrell Bevell’s offense.
Miller may outpace all of the Seattle WRs and is a decent start in any league.
With Frank Gore signed and a decent receiving corp. in San Francisco, it is not advisable to use the Seattle defense.
Wait a week or two and see how this unit gels before trotting them out there for your Fantasy squad.
