Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seahawks Week 9 gambling odds & handicapping

Seahawks Return Home

The Seattle Seahawks return home this week after another successful road trip with a 7-1 record and top spot in the NFC. This week they face the most dysfunctional team in the NFL – the Greg Schiano led Tampa Bay Buccaneers who seem to be self-destructing before our very eyes. Seattle played their worst on Monday night but as all good teams do – they found a way to win while the Bucs played OK at times last Thursday and as all bad teams to – they found a way to lose.

Not a whole lot has gone right for Tampa Bay this year and unfortunately for the team a lot of their woes are self-inflicted. There is the Josh Freeman debacle, the Greg Schiano antics and there is the overall lack of discipline on and off the field. Tampa looks as bad as Jacksonville right now – and that’s saying something.

Mike Glennon is the undisputable #1 QB in Tampa right now – hard to believe! He has actually been OK so far – 997 yards and eight touchdowns on the year. Vincent Jackson hasn’t really missed a beat with Glennon at the helm – he is the most dangerous Buc with 41 catches for 623 yards and four scores.

The offense as a whole has been poor though – no two ways about – their average of 14.3 points and 297.7 yards ranks only ahead of Jacksonville – ugh!

More good news for Seattle fans is that Doug Martin will be out again this week forcing Mike James to handle the bulk of the running back duties. James had 39 yards on 10 carries in his first career start last week. He is certainly a tier of two below the skills of Martin. The Buccaneers are also missing guard Carl Nicks and receiver Mike Williams – not a good sign for a struggling team.

Defensively, the Buccaneers have been OK, ranking 18th in the league in points allowed per game while also ranking 14th in the league in total yards allowed per game. They have more than their share of talent on D – they just haven’t quite realized their potential as of yet.

The Seattle Seahawks have been sensational all year in every aspect of the game but were humbled somewhat on Monday night at St. Louis. They gained 135 yards on offense in their 14-9 win and had only seven first downs all game long.

They will be looking to rebound this week but will do so without Sidney Rice who is out for the season with a torn ACL. It’s a good thing that Percy Harvin is slated to return!

It’s also a good thing that Russell Wilson familiarized himself with Golden Tate who caught Wilson’s only 2 TDs last week. Seattle’s passing offense is only 28th in the NFL – expect the running game to be front and center this week.

Marshawn Lynch was visibly upset with his game in St. Louis where he had one of his worst effort in years! Lynch has been a beast once again this season on the whole, rushing for 601 yards and six touchdowns. Lynch will be better than his eight carry, 23 yard performance – guaranteed.

Defensively Seattle has been one of the best all season – third in the league in points allowed and second in least yards allowed per game. Seattle is simply elite – the Bucs shouldn’t be much of a challenge in theory.

Dave B’s Free won’t cost you anything betting prediction:

A few trends to consider (ATS = Against the Spread):
• Under is 8-3 in TB last 11 games overall.
• Under is 7-3 in TB last 10 vs. NFC.
• Over is 12-4 in SEA last 16 games in November.
• SEA are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
• SEA are 21-8 ATS in their last 29 vs. NFC.
• Under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
• Road team is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

There may be a few that are scared off by the dud Seattle delivered on Monday Night Football but not me!

Seattle won seven of the first eight meetings between the teams, who both came into the league in 1976, Seattle’s spread record as big chalk at home – 10-3-1 ATS in 14 games and the Hawks have covered 19 of their last 25 when laying points at home.

The Hawks are money on home turf and will be looking to get back to the form that has them the favorite in the NFC. They were due for a slight blip and last week was it. Seattle wins huge this week!

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -16
