The surging Seattle Seahawks play their second consecutive nationally televised game at home on Monday night – this time they welcome the hapless St. Louis Rams into the unfriendly confines of CenturyLink Field.
Seattle has been playing some very good football as of late – a 31-14 won over a decent Eagles squad and wins in three of their last four games.
The same can’t be said about the Rams – they have lost three straight games including an ugly 24-7 home loss three weeks ago against the Seahawks and a terrible 26-0 shellacking last week at the hands of the 49ers.
St. Louis is a mess – a team that has seemingly taken three steps backwards in their progress. What makes matters even worse this week (as if they can get any worse!) is the realization that the team may be force to go with Tom Brandstater at Quarterback.
My thoughts exactly!
Sam Bradford still isn’t close to 100% with a bum ankle and backup AJ Feeley broke a bone in his throwing hand last week. Both are highly questionable to start this week.
(Bradford did not practice today, but I’m hearing he wants to play still)
The Rams pass game is ranked 28th in the NFL while the running game is 27th in the league. Steven Jackson who had a good mid-season run has faltered of late – just an average of 41.6 yards over his last three games. All told, the Rams offense has been plain awful – just an average of 11.67 points per game this season, just 157 total yards last week and just a total of 185 yards three weeks ago against these very same Seattle Seahawks.
The St. Louis defense hasn’t been much better. They are dead last in the NFL against the run – an astounding 157.75 yards allowed per game and they allow an average of 24.67 points per game (25th in the NFL).
The Seattle Seahawks have officially rounded the corner on their season. And it all has o do with the surprising play of an injury riddled Offensive Line and Marshawn Lynch who is leading the NFL with 591 rushing yards and five run TDs in five games since Week 9.
Lynch has been masterful and should continue to be so against St. Louis’s dreadful run defense.
The Seattle passing game took a hit when Sidney Rice was lost for the season. But the 20th ranked unit didn’t miss a beat last week with Golden Tate picking up the slack along with Ben Obomanu and Mike Williams. Tarvaris Jackson continues to manage the game and to feed Mr. Lynch.
Another key reason for Seattle’s recent good fortune is the play of the defense. In the last four games, they have forced 8 interceptions and have generated 9 sacks. This unit is playing at a very high level right now and will be an enormous test for the offensively challenged Rams on Monday night.

The Seahawks have taken 12 of the last 13 matchups with the Rams – including six in a row at home by an average of 17.6 points – and they’ve averaged 164.5 yards on the ground in those wins at CenturyLink Field. St. Louis (2-10) has been outscored 114-25 in its last four visits to Seattle, and experienced similar offensive woes last Sunday.
The Rams managed a season-low 157 yards in a 26-0 loss at San Francisco.
St. Louis is just 2-11 SU and ATS in their last 13 games overall and are 1-7 SU and ATS in their last 8 games on the road.
This game is as easy to call as any game that the Hawks have played in a few seasons. Seattle is Hot and St. Louis is Ice Cold!
With problems at QB and with even more problems on the defensive side of the ball, the Rams will be in very tough against an emerging Seattle squad that beat them 24-7 in St. Louis just three weeks ago.
The loud crowd will go home happy again on Monday – Seattle wins in a rout!
Pick: Seattle Seahawks
