Social Media Report: Seattle Seahawks Edition

Seahawks on Twitter

Looking for NWSportsBeat on Twitter?

Being one of the youngest teams in the NFL hasn’t been beneficial so far for the Seattle Seahawks this season. Sitting at 2-5, cutting out the old and growing new rookie talent may take another year or two to materialize into playoff potential.

With the lack of Ws these days, are the Seahawks releasing their frustrations from losses and injuries online?

The team’s average age is 26 – so are these guys social media savvy?

If you’re a serious Seattle fan, you should check out what your players are saying. Get into their heads a bit.

Figure out what’s going on with them on and off the field through Twitter.

It’s definitely an entertaining pass time, particularly if you care to say something directly to your team – maybe even illicit a response.

Here’s a bit of a preview, along with how some Seahawks’ Twitter feeds rank in comedic value and content.

Golden Tate – WR

Golden Tate, Wide Receiver (@ShowtimeTate) – Answering fans and friends tweets, while giving updates on what he’s doing – “riding in a Maserati for the first time”, his opinions – “lip injections just aren’t for some people”, and decisions “wearin all black today so I don’t look as fat. And eating subway.”

Pete Carroll, Coach

The best recent tweet came from a hotel in Cleveland during the Seahawks’ Bye Week, where Tate watched the USC Trojans vs. his former college team Notre Dame with coach Pete Carroll. Washington tweeted: “Wish y’all could see the look on @PeteCarroll[‘s”] face after that kickoff return. #priceless”.

Chirping the coach. Nice. (@PeteCarroll was “rooting hard from the Trojans from out hotel room in Cleveland! Cmon SC!”).

Tarvaris Jackson, QB

Tarvaris Jackson, QB (@7tjackson) – Mainly replying to his 12,000+ followers, college football players and female friends. Having random conversations that aren’t easy or interesting to follow.

No outstanding football talk to be found. Cute picture of his kiddies though.

Leon Washington, RB

Leon Washington, Seahawks Running Back (@Leon_Washington) – Gives away tickets to games for correct answers to football trivia!! “What QB threw me my 1st TD reception?” Answer: Brett Favre. First fan to tweet won tickets that Leon left at will-call in Seattle.

The Best Seattle Seahawks On Twitter

Good use of social media contesting. This guy is allll over Twitter every day.

Walter Thurmond III, CB

Walter Thurmond III, Cornerback (@WaltThurm3) – On injured reserve after fracturing his fibula in a 6-3 loss against the Cleveland Browns on October 23rd, Thurmond has been tweeting about his expected recovery time (4-6 months) along with some inspirational quotes to keep he & his fans positive.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. – Aristotle. one of my mottos I live by”.

Mike Williams, WR

Mike Williams, Wide Receiver (@BigMikeWill17) – “Hennessey and Lemonade. call it Hennemade”.  Seattle Storm fan. Mentions the Seattle weather once in awhile, what movies he’s watching, when he’s right. “If you recall I did say the Cardinals would win it.”

Even throws in some of his daughter’s jokes – “Why did Tigger look in the toilet? Because he was looking for Pooh.”

A personal favorite of our Senior Editor “Q” is Seahawks Hall of Famer Walter Jones.  (@BigWalt71) – He takes time out of his retirment days to answer questions from Seahawks fans.

Whether they’re winning or losing, football players in particular are living the life, and usually Tweeting about their random thoughts and adventures.

Most of the Seahawks are worth a follow.
