Seahawks vs. Broncos Super Bowl XLVIII gambling odds & handicapping

It All Comes Down to This

Seattle Seahawks and Broncos Ply for the World Title

We have the two teams that will play for the Super Bowl February 2 in New Jersey and thanks to Richard Sherman and Peyton Manning, we have a villain and a hero heading into the Big Game. Either way the two best teams during the regular reason have risen to the top – the league`s top ranked offense will try to exploit the NFLs best defense – the first time that has happened since 1990.

The Denver Broncos enter the dance for the first time in 15 years while the Seattle Seahawks return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2006.

The Seattle Seahawks had a remarkable season and became one of the most well-balanced teams in the NFL. But make no mistake about it, defense is what makes this team tick. Seattle finished the regular season ranked first in scoring defense (14.4 points per game allowed), pass defense (172 yards per game) and total defense (273.6 yards per game).

They will most certainly have their hands full against Peyton Manning and the incredible Denver offense but there is no team better equipped for such a big challenge than the Seattle Seahawks.

The Super Bowl could reasonably come down to Seattle`s offense. The Seahawks enter with the 26th ranked passing game – underwhelming at times but a terrific compliment to their running game at other times. Russell Wilson had his moments this year but ended the regular season averaging 116 yards through the air in his last three.

He did have 215 yards and a score against San Francisco and he will have Percy Harvin back in the fold so the Hawks are cautiously optimistic they will be able to make some hay against a sketchy Denver secondary.

This game will come down to the effectiveness of Lynch

This game will come down to the effectiveness of Lynch

In all likelihood this game will come down to the effectiveness of Marshawn Lynch who had 1,257 yards rushing this season and 12 TDs. Not only is Lynch the centerpiece of the offensive game plan but a good performance in the Super Bowl will ensure that Peyton and crew are left on the sidelines.

The Broncos will be the worst defense the Seahawks have faced in about six weeks. Denver was eighth in the NFL in run defense this year (inflated due to the teams having to throw to keep up) and they were 27th in the league against the pass.

Defense was the Broncos Achilles heel all season long and could be an issue in the Super Bowl against a mobile QB, a solid running game and a pass game that looked lights out at times this season.

But Denver has a Superman that could ride to the rescue. Peyton Manning had an unprecedented season throwing the ball in 2014. He set records for passing yards (5,477) and for TDs (55).

That`s nearly 3.5 TD passes per game – unreal! Manning threw for 400 yards and 2 TDs last week which put to rest the notion that he can’t win the big game. With weapons like Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas, Erik Decker and Julius Thomas it is no wonder the Broncos absolutely lit up NFL.

The Broncos will also have an underrated running game that ranked 15th in the NFL – they played better than their rank.

Knowshon Moreno and Montee Ball are a handful for any team and just another aspect of Denver`s attack that teams absolutely have to account for. The duo has already rumbled for 236 yards and a TD in the playoffs.

Dave B’s Free Betting Prediction:

A Few Trends To Consider:

• SEA are 13-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• SEA are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall.
• Over is 13-2-1 in DEN last 16 games on fieldturf.
• DEN are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
• DEN are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 playoff games.

I can`t think of a better matchup for the Super Bowl than the Hawks and the Broncos. Defense usually trumps offense and I think the same rings true in this instance.

Seattle`s defense will do its job slowing the Denver offense – the trick for the Seahawks is to get their offense to do their jobs against what has been a suspect Broncos defense.

In a relatively high scoring game take the Hawks to control the clock, harass Peyton Manning and squeak out a thrilling victory.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks +2 1/2
