Start ‘em & Sit ‘em Week 1
Fantasy Football - Seattle Seahawks Week 1 predictions
The 2013 NFL season is finally upon us, and for the Seattle Seahawks it brings with it a mountain of expectations. That said, there are only a few sure-fire Fantasy starters on the roster. Marshawn Lynch as always is a must-start with the defense projecting to be a top 10 unit in Week 1, but the rest of the team figures to be just average Fantasy wise.
Week 1 sees the Hawks head out on the road where they traditionally struggle. They play a Carolina team that they beat 16-12 in Carolina last year. This week figures to mirror that 2012 matchup.
Let’s take a look at the projections of the Seahawks position players and who should start for your Fantasy squad.
QB Russell Wilson
20 yards rushing, 220 yards passing, 1 TD
Russell Wilson was terrific last year and threw for 221 yards against Carolina while rushing for only 12 yards. I expect more of the same in the opener – OK but not spectacular numbers. He is the ultimate game manager and with Marshawn Lynch on the roster, Wilson’s passing numbers will be somewhat limited.
This has all the makings of a defensive struggle as it was last year, in a 16-12 win for Seattle.
RB Marshawn Lynch
100 yards rushing, 1 TD
Lynch ran for 1590 yards and 11 TDs last year – he finally elevated to that elite category but he had only 85 yards on 21 carries against Carolina last season. I think he gets his score this week as well as 100 yards on the ground – he did it in 11 of 16 games last year.
He will definitely get his opportunities this week – guaranteed!
WR Sidney Rice
5 catches, 60 yards
Sidney Rice was OK last year and he figures to be again this year. His knee is a major question mark – who knows how the treatment in Switzerland went!
Golden Tate looks like the better option in the Red Zone for the Seahawks from a Fantasy perspective, which limits Rice’s value in a big way.
WR Golden Tate
4 catches, 60 yards, 1 TD
I like Tate to record his typically moderate receiving yards but I like him to score. He has become a favorite of Russell Wilson, and although I don’t recommend his as a starter in your Fantasy league, he could be a flex in deeper formats.
WR Doug Baldwin
2 catches, 20 yards
He hasn’t realized the form that we all expected after his rookie season. Simply put, there just isn’t enough to go around in Seattle.
TE Zach Miller
3 catches, 40 yards
Zach Miller was getting his looks toward the end of last season and appeared to develop a rapport with Russell Wilson. How and if that carries over to this year remains a mystery. Optimistically I project 40 yards for Miller but wouldn’t be surprised to see 15-25.
PK Steven Hauschka
2 FG 2 XP
275 yards, 2 sack 1 Int., 1 FF
The Seattle defense will be a top tier Fantasy defense this season but in Week 1 they may not exactly be lights out.
You will have to start them if you drafted them but temper your expectations just a bit – the Panthers simply don’t turn the ball over all that much. It will be a low scoring defensive battle Sunday with Defensive Fantasy points hard to come by.
