Wishful Thinking
Before we get to caught up in all this Seattle hosting the Super bowl news that Aaron Levine of Q13 Fox reported last night. Ask yourself this question.
Really? Would the NFL seriously even consider it? Don’t get your hopes up anytime soon.
The Seattle Seahawks have taken the initial steps to one day…”possibly” host the Super Bowl. Aaron mentioned the Seahawks submitted initial paperwork to the league.
The Super Bowl Advisory Committee must now invite the Seattle organization to submit an official bid.
The NFL is spreading the big game around.
New York will host a super bowl in 2014. Not much explaining needed. The east coast media bias really pounded the league hard to host the big game in the new stadium. After all its NYC we’re talking about.
Indianapolis hosted the Super Bowl in 2012. An indoor stadium.
Detroit hosted the big game in February 2006 with Super Bowl XL. Also, an indoor game, pretty much paid for by FORD.
Future Super Bowl host cities are set through 2015.
- 2013 – Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana
- 2014 – MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
- 2015 – University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
There’s also some RULES and requirements put in place for the host city to host the big game.
Could Century Link Field & Seattle really host the Super Bowl?
The host city must have an average temperature of 50 degrees in the month of February for outdoor venues. Must have a 70,000 seat capacity stadium. And must have 25,000 hotel rooms in the immediate area.
If Detroit can host the Super Bowl why can’t Seattle you ask?
Easy Answer.
- 1. Outdoor Stadium.
- 2. Unpredictable weather
- 3. It’s Freakin Seattle!
At least Seattle has the HOTEL Rooms.
What about NYC you ask? Well come on now. This is the NFL we’re talking about. There’s a major difference in the media market between Seattle and New York City.
That’s the no-brainer of 2012 isn’t it?
Aaron went on to say Seattle is the 12th largest media market in the country and that Seattle should be treated as such.
He pointed out Seattle has one of the loudest and most treasured stadiums in the league, and deserves to put its best foot forward and show the world what it’s all about.
Very noble, but I have to interject some logic.
“IT WON’T HAPPEN”
We are talking about Seattle Washington USA.
That’s pretty much a suburb of Mystery, Alaska as far as the NFL is concerned. Don’t sweat it Seattle, it’s just not going to EVER happen. Sorry Aaron. This is a PIPE dream.
If it does I’ll eat crow, plus I’ll buy some tickets to the game.
I leave you with this. No team has ever played the Super Bowl in its home stadium. The closest have been the 49ers who played Super Bowl XIX in Stanford Stadium, rather than Candlestick Park.
It’s fun to dream though isn’t it?
