The first wave of NFL roster cuts is happening today around the NFL and we now know who has a free pass to the 4th and final preseason game vs. the Raiders.
Things are a little rough around the VMAC today no doubt with new and old teammates saying good-bye to each other in the Seahawks locker room.
Friday night saw an impressive performance by the Seahawks, so I’m fully expecting quite a few of these players cut today to land on other teams.
They were cut today and not later for exactly that reason.
The organization respects them and their contributions and by cutting them early they can find another team quicker now.
As we see most years, there’s some surprises, and we always see some young rookies or second year guys prooving themeslves worthy enough to make the vets a thing of the past.
The Cuts Are IN
Pete Carroll and John Schneider have made up their minds and waived/injured DB Roy Lewis, Jamison Konz, Cameron Morrah, and DT Pep Levingston. Lewis the only real shocker to me to be honest.
The’ve also officially waived Terrell Owens, Guard Deuce Lutui, and guard Alex Barron.
Rookie D-lineman, correct that (wink) guard J.R. Sweezy has been better than advertised, making Deuce Lutui expendable.
Terrell Owens brought some speed to camp but left his hands in California.
By keeping Braylon Edwards as their big veteran receiver we now know that the Hawks weren’t going to have Edwards and TO on the roster.
Also on the cutdown list today Phil Bates, Edawn Coughman, Donny Lisowski, Ron Parker, and Tyrell Sutton.
There are now EXACTLY 75 players on the Seahawks roster.
We did OK in our roster cut predictions didn’t we?
We predicted, Lutui, Barron, Lockette, Durham, Owens, Bates, Konz, Heifet, Guy, and Ron Parker. Six out of ten isn’t to shabby.
The league deadline for roster cuts is Monday, Aug. 27 (4 p.m. ET). The Seahawks will announce two more cuts by tomorrow at the 1pm PT deadline to reach the 75-man limit.
This just in. The Seahawks have traded Tarvaris Jackson to the Buffalo Bills. More on this trade here. That leaves the Seahawks with 71 players on the roster now.
We’ll keep you updated if there are any more player moves made by the Seahawks.
