Read my lips. The Seahawks have a NEW ROOKIE STARTING QUARTERBACK!
In a move that pretty much had to be made Pete Carroll made the announcement via conference call tonight that everyone was expecting.
Russell Wilson the rookie from Wisconsin will be the Seattle Seahawks Week 1 starting quarterback.
He had this to say via twitter following the announcement.
I’m thrilled to get this opportunity thanks to @petecarroll, my @seahawks teammates and the #12thman Matt 6:33

Most experts including “myself” felt he was to undersized at just under 5-foot-11 and 204 pounds. He’s prooved me wrong, and as a Seahawks fan. I’m 100% in favor of this move. I’m buying in.
He beat out Matt Flynn fair and square in the Seahawks QB competition.
“Russell Wilson will start against the Raiders (in the preseason finale) and will start the first week of the regular season,” Carroll said. “He is so prepared, he does not seem like a first-year quarterback.”

My choice for starting QB, Russell Wilson. He has won this QB competition? What will he do for an encore?
Wilson was very impressive in mini-camps and OTA’s and is leading this offense right now.
He was selected 75th in the third round of this years NFL entry draft.
In Friday’s Week 3 preseason game he got ample playing time, and after 2 1/2 quarters of play was 13-of-19 for 185 yards and two touchdowns with 58 yards on two scrambles.
He led the Seahawks to scoring drives on their first six possessions in a 44-14 rout.
Flynn missed most of last week’s practices with tendinitis in his elbow and did not play in the game against the Chiefs.
One can only hope he shows his true TEAM colors at this point and doesn’t take the backup NEWS to harshly. I expect he will.
“He’s disappointed,” Carroll said during the conference call, regarding Flynn’s reaction.
“Matt came here to be the starter, and he took it exactly the way I think a great competitor would.”
Who knows how long Wilson can stay in there.
HE will take some hits as a rookie, we all know that.
