Welcome to Seattle Robert Turbin…Utah St. running back

Seahawks 4th Round Selection (106)

Name: Robert Turbin
Position: RB
College: Utah State
Height: 5’10″
Weight: 222
40 yard dash: 4.50

Day 3 of the 2012 NFL draft is going to be a very busy day at the VMAC. Not only do the Seattle Seahawks hold 7 picks over the last 4 round they are going to introduce first round pick Bruce Irvin to the media.

Out of the 7 picks 2 were in the 4th round, 106 and 114th overall.

With the 106th pick in the draft the Seattle Seahawks selected running back Robert Turbin out of Utah State.

The Seahawks now have BeastMode starting in the backfield and when he needs a breather they can bring in the Hulk.

Robert Turbin prides himself on being a strong physical player. He has shown an ability to move the pile and get tough yards but he is so much more than that to offer Seattle.

He has good vision and the quickness needed to break the ball outside. He is able to find his way through the trash in the middle by breaking tackles and finding small creases.

Robert is a team player, he just wants to win the game and is willing to play any role you ask him to.

Robert Turbin

Seahawks 4th round pick Robert Turbin gained 1,517 yards this year

He will block a blitzing linebacker, try to chip a defensive end or get out in the passing game. When he does run routes he can catch the ball and pick up YAC (yard after catch) yards.

He’s not afraid to lower his shoulder and deliver the hit, poor DB’s when he has a full head of steam.

At 222 pound and with his speed that is not going to be a collision they are going to enjoy, especially after Marshawn Lynch has been tenderizing them.

Relief For The Beast

When you select a player in the 4th round you expect him to have some issues and this kid is no different.

My biggest issue with him is that he needs to be coached. He needs someone to tell him to stop dancing around behind the line of scrimmage and instead make one cut then stick his foot in the ground, lower his shoulder and bust through the line.

At times he dances when there are no holes to run through looking for the big play and they will get to him behind the line.

This kid is significantly better when he has a full head of steam behind him.

In the NFL sometimes getting a yard or two is a very successful run and I’m sure the Seahawks coaching staff and Marshawn Lynch will teach him that.

Expert Analysis

PER NFL.com

Turbin has been a productive back at Utah State, consistently rushing for more than 100 yards per game. He remains a bit of an unknown, but he should excite the Seahawks faithful with his athletic ability and size. He was being touted as a pick that could go as early as the second round.

The Seahawks still hold 5 picks today

Fifth: 19th, 154th
Sixth: 2nd, 172nd
Sixth: 12th, No 181st
Seventh: 18th, 225th
Seventh: 25th, 232nd
