Touchdown Seahawks! Doug Baldwin catches his first of 2012

Don’t Forget About Me

After becoming the first player in NFL history to lead his team in receiving yards and catches as an undrafted free agent rookie last year, Doug Baldwin has been off to a slow start in his sophomore year for the Seahawks.

There have been a few reasons behind that.  Sidney Rice is healthy and producing, same can be said for Zach Miller.

Golden Tate is finally showing off what we all were expecting when he got drafted in 2010.

Baldwin has also missed one game this year due to injury and chipped a tooth while attempting a diving catch on the second to last play of the week one lose to Arizona.

So Seahawk fans, don’t forget about Dougie and fantasy owners don’t sleep on him because this is what he’s capable of!

The Personnel

The Seahawks were in their ’11’ formation with one Tight End and one Running Back.  Zach Miller was lined up off of Right Tackle Breno Giacomini and Marshawn Lynch was in the backfield.

Eventual receiver of the Russell Wilson pass Doug Baldwin was lined up in his usual slot position on the right side.  He was flanked by Ben Obomanu and Golden Tate was lined up on the left in his usual split end spot.

Doug Baldwin caught a great TD on Sunday!

The Play

At the snap, Marshawn Lynch wades through the line and breaks into the flat and actually gets a look from Wilson as pressure mounds, before Wilson scrambles outside the pocket.

Golden Tate and Ben Obomanu both run streak routes and draw man coverage.  Zach Miller runs a post into the middle of the endzone.

Doug Baldwin’s route is a difficult one to judge.  It looked to be a streak, but as he got jammed he fell down and it became more of a seam route towards the middle rather than a straight path to the endzone.

Baldwin getting shoved down mistimed the play and Wilson has to step out of the pocket to avoid the rush which gives Doug Baldwin time to catch up to where he should be.

Wilson steps up to throw and delivers an absolute dime!

The Catch

As mentioned, Baldwin falls which mistimed the route poorly, but as the ball is delivered he does an excellent job of regaining body position and jumps into the air to catch it with his entire body and keeps control while falling to the ground.

He then celebrates with Blitz, the mascot.  Badass.

It’s a short week in Seattle, as the Seahawks return to primetime and Thursday Night Football against the hated San Francisco 49ers.
