Save The Date: Seahawks vs. Cardinals
The Countdown Is On – Game 1 Is In 41 Days – September 9th, 2012
1:25PM PT - University of Phoenix Stadium
A crowd of around 1200 Seattle Seahawks 12th man fans showed up for practice today, an extremely good turnout for a weekday. They were treated to some great plays by Ricardo Lockette and great balls by Matt Flynn.
Small Observations
Jason Jones was not in gear today, but looked very good in the first two days of practice. Rookie Bruce Irvin played very well without Jones in, I saw him collect at least3 sacks.
Kris Durham continues to hurt his cause, as he had a few drops. Deon Butler was solid in drills, and I’m beginning to believe the last spot on the active roster will come down to those two.
Offense:
Ricardo Lockette made a couple great catches downfield, not surprising since that is his expected role, a deep threat that the defense always needs to keep in the back of their head. But a nice surprise was to see him getting involved in short and medium routes, and being effective.
Media seems to be surprised with how well he has performed so far, and I think we can expect him to continue to improve.
Remember this time last year when there were rumors Golden Tate was in risk of getting cut?
What a difference a year makes, as he continues to impress, today not to many ‘wow’ plays, more solid starting receiver plays.
Defense
Like I said above, Bruce Irvin had a strong day, as did the veteran Chris Clemons, who was in on numerous plays in the backfield.
KJ Wright got in the backfield on one play and made Robert Turbin look like Bruce Banner, and surprised him he was there already.
Much has been made of rookie second round pick Bobby Wagner’s impact on the defense already, and in my opinion he has performed quite well for a three day veteran of the NFL.
He was making calls in day one, and hasn’t made to many plays where you think to yourself ‘what was he thinking?’, which is a positive sign because at this point in Aaron Curry‘s career he had made already lots of those.
Quarterback Competition
It was Matt Flynn‘s day to be the number three quarterback, but it seemed like he got a few more reps than the others.

He continues to improve day after day, and the coaches can see it.
Same can be said about Russell Wilson, he had his best practice yet. Tarvaris Jackson was Tarvaris Jackson, looking indecisive at the best of times.
Pete Carroll said earlier this week that he absolutely knows when the quarterback competition will go from three to two, and it might be sooner than later.
What They’re Saying
Russell Wilson spoke to the media after today’s practice, and had nothing but praise for his offensive line:
“The offensive line is doing a tremendous job; everyone who steps in is doing a great job.”
When asked about the progression each quarterback’s been making from day to day:
“Everyday it’s getting better, and that’s the way it should be, you have to keep improving to be a quarterback in the National Football League.”
Whats happening today?
