San Francisco 49ers vs. Seahawks Week 2 gambling odds & handicapping

Seahawks Home Opener vs. 49ers

Two of the NFC elite meet in the marquee matchup on the NFL Week 2 schedule when the San Francisco 49ers travel to Seattle to take on your Seattle Seahawks. With a 42-13 beat down at the hands of Seattle at CenturyLink still fresh in their minds the 49ers will be out for revenge for certain.

The Niners enter off a somewhat impressive win over the Green Bay Packers last week. The Hawks on the other hand defied the odds and got it done last week against a good Carolina team in a game that kicked off at the dreaded 10:00 AM PST.

The San Francisco 49ers looked very good on offense last week – Colin Kaepernick threw for over 400 yards and the running game chipped in as well on the way to scoring 34 points against the Pack. This was against an average defense however – something San Francisco won’t have the honor of facing this week.

A new wrinkle has emerged offensively for San Francisco in the form of Anquan Boldin who registered over 200 yards receiving in Week 1.

He looked unstoppable versus Green Bay and serves as that stellar possession receiver that San Francisco hasn’t seen in quite some time. Vernon Davis was also terrific last week scoring twice and adding that element of danger to the 49ers offense.

San Francisco is scary offensively heading into this week but they were last year when they visited Seattle as well!

Rusell Wilson

49ers vs. Seahawks Gambling Insight

Defense elevated the 49ers to top tier status the last couple of seasons but they showed a little vulnerability last week – particularly in the secondary. With Russell Wilson coming off a 300+ yard passing game for the Hawks, you can bet that the Hawks will be flinging it all over the park Sunday.

As good as San Francisco looked last week, their win came ion home turf at 4:25 PM PST.

The Hawks traveled across country, started early and gutted out a win without three defensive stars – Brandon Browner, Cliff Avril and Chris Clemons all of whom have a very good chance of suiting up this week. Seattle didn’t blow anybody away offensively last week but their ability to take what the defense gave them and to spread the ball around to a number of receivers was certainly impressive.

Marshawn Lynch struggled last week against a very good run stopping defense that was keying on him. This week he faces a similarly stingy run D but hopes are that the threat of Russell Wilson throwing the ball will keep the 49ers defensive front honest.

Do I see another 17 carry, 43 yard rushing effort for Lynch – heck no!

As mentioned, Seattle’s defense was missing some key guys last week and they still managed to hold Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers to just 7 points.

Nobody has any worries about this team defensively and their experience versus Colin Kaepernick in the past should help – so too should the fact that they played a similar QB – Cam Newton very tough just last week.

Dave B’s Free Won’t Cost You Anything Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• Over is 11-1 in SF last 12 games overall.
• Over is 7-3-2 in SF last 12 games in September.
• SF are 26-12-1 ATS in their last 39 games overall.
• SEA are 10-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Under is 9-3 in SEA last 12 games in Week 2.
• SEA are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 vs. NFC.
• Home team is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

The Seahawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against the ‘Niners at home, and overall they have covered in three straight games against the 49ers.

The 12th man is a real thing folks – and they should be the difference Sunday. We have to look way back to December 2011 to see the last time that Seattle lost on home turf.

With a fired up crowd, a seemingly decent game plan for limiting the effectiveness of Mr. Kaepernick and with the return of three quality starters on defense, I like the Hawks to draw first blood in what should be a back-and-forth battle for NFC supremacy this year.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -3
