NFL Injury Report: Seahawks Lose Rookie Offensive Lineman To IR

Right side of O-line decimated

It just keeps on getting better for the Seattle Seahawks, as a little wind was taken out of their sails recently when it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and confirmed by the Seahawks and NWSportsBeat that the team will put first round draft pick OL James Carpenter on IR.

Carpenter tore his ACL at Wednesday’s practice and is done for the season.

Starting RG John Moffitt, who was the team’s 3rd round draft pick this season, was lost for the season earlier this week after suffering a knee injury in the win over Baltimore last week.

The losses to the young lineman are a big blow to the Seahawks, who are coming off a huge win over the Ravens and the run blocking up front had been solid with RB Marshawn Lynch rushing for over 100 yards in his last 2 games and has scored a rushing TD in his last 5 games.

Nobody's smiling now as both pictured draft picks are now on IR for the Seahawks

Also, their pass blocking really struggled in the first 7 games giving up the most sacks in the league, but in their last 2 games they had only given up 2 sacks.

OL Lemuel Jeanpierre played well on Sunday taking over for the injured Moffit, but it is expected that OL Paul McQuistan will get the start instead in the Rams game this Sunday.

He will likely get the start on the right side of the line because he is a more experienced player and he knows the zone system that OL coach Tom Cable uses.

Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll talked about McQuistan getting the start saying, “He’s played before. He has a little more experience. Also, we have a situation where Lem is the backup snapper in this game.

We’ve got to make sure that with only two snappers available to us we have got to make sure he’s available to us if we need him.”

While both Carpenter and Moffit suffered season-ending injuries the one to Moffit may be more severe.

Carpenter tore his ACL tear during pass-rush drills while Moffit injured his posterior-cruciate (PCL) and medial-collateral (MCL) ligaments.

However, both should be back by the time training camp begins next season.
