*ATS Matchup Report*
The Philadelphia Eagles have lost three of their last four games and now sit in last place in the NFC East while the Hawks had a mini two game win streak snapped in Week 12 but still sit in second in the brutal NFC West.
The Philadelphia Eagles have had their share of adversity this season but there is absolutely zero excuse for a 4-7 record. This team is littered with talent up and down the lineup but have been unable to put it all together on offense or defense through the first two thirds of the year.
There are injuries (Mike Vick and Jeremy Maclin will likely sit out Thursday due to theirs), there is player apathy (DeSean Jackson has missed meetings and wide open catches in the last couple of weeks) and there is frequent calls for their coach to be fired. The mood is ugly in the City of Brotherly Love – the product on the field is equally as ugly.
The Eagles bring the 10th ranked passing offense into Thursday night’s game but will be forced to go with Vince Young who passed for 400 yards last week. He will do some damage for sure.
But the key for Seattle is to limit the effectiveness to the league’s top rusher LeSean McCoy who has 1050 yards on the ground this season with 13 total touchdowns.
McCoy is a dual-threat beast and he poses matchup problems for every team that he faces.
The Eagles were supposed to have the best defense in the NFL this season but as it sits right now, they are simply average. They are 16th against the pass (234.36 yards allowed per game) and 15th against the run (110.27 yards allowed per game).
The Eagles are in the bottom third of the NFL in points allowed (21.22 points per game).
The Seattle Seahawks were one quarter away from their third straight victory last week before a meltdown resulted in a heartbreaking loss. The Hawks played well but gave up 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Yup – they were one quarter away from three straight wins! Seattle is showing some signs of promise however on both sides of the ball.
Marshawn Lynch had 111 yards on the ground and he added a 20-yard touchdown reception in last week’s loss. Lynch now has three 100+ yard games in his last four and he has scored a touchdown in seven straight.
The Hawks are still 27th in the NFL in rushing but it, like the rest of the team is improving week by week.
Seattle’s passing game may be forced to play without Sidney Rice and Mike Williams on Thursday which would be a major loss. Ben Obomanu and Doug Baldwin are nice secondary receiving threats but against Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugua they could be overmatched.
Seattle’s defense will have its hands full on Thursday. But their strength matches up well with Philadelphia’s offense. Seattle’s run defense is 11th in the NFL – a good sign against an Eagles team that promises to feed LeSean McCoy. The pass defense is 21st and will be in charge of limiting, not stopping Vince Young’s effectiveness.
Dave’s Free Seahawks Betting Prediction
The Philadelphia Eagles are definitely struggling – 4-10 SU and ATS in their last 14 games. They are 4-1 SU in their last five games in Seattle and are 4-2 ATS in their last six trips to the Pacific Northwest.
The Seattle Seahawks are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games and are 5-2 ATS in the last seven at home.
The Philadelphia Eagles are ripe for the pickin – their season is basically over and dysfunction has reared its ugly head. Seattle is a very good home team and they are headed in the right direction – something that can’t be said for the Eagles.
Seattle gets it done on Thursday night and Andy Reid may be looking for work on Friday!
Pick: Seattle Seahawks +2 ½
