Five things to watch during Seahawks 2013 preseason schedule

What’s on tap come August

Just as the MLB season started up, and the NHL and NBA seasons are winding down, the NFL announced its 2013 pre-season schedule on Thursday.

This is good news for all of you fans out there that could care less about the other sports in the area.

The football Gods will be smiling down on us this August, as there are a few games that will have a little more than the normal pre-season feel to them.

The Seahawks will match up with three of their old AFC West foes, and will also get some national TV time against the Green Bay Packers.

Here’s the full lineup: @ Chargers (Aug 8-11) vs. Broncos (Aug 15-19) @ Packers (Aug 23rd, national TV) vs. Raiders (Aug 29-30). Official dates and times have not been announced yet, but these games will happen on these weekends.

So with no further ado, I give you the top five things I will be watching for in the 2013 NFL pre-season.

1: Back up QB

As we wait in the dark to find out who exactly will be backing up Russell Wilson, one thing is for sure; Matt Flynn will play in Seattle this year.

Since it is the final game of the pre-season, he should get some serious playing time too.

I wish him the best in Oakland, and though I will not root for either him or the Raiders, it will be nice to see him finally get a chance to be a starter in the NFL.

2: Orange crush

This game has Super Bowl preview written all over it. Too bad it takes place during the second week of pre-season.

Peyton Manning and the boys will come to Seattle bringing with them a brand new wide out; Wes Welker.

This will be a great test for our defense to go up against the Broncos potent offense – even if it is only for a few downs.

3: Golden shower of hits

Expect Seahawks WR Golden Tate to get a less than welcoming introduction to the game in Green Bay.

These fans are some of the most loyal in the league, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a beer or two were chucked onto Mr. Tate’s head as he enters the field of play.

High beer prices or not, Packers fans will let the Seahawks know who they think really caught that ball last year.

Here’s to Golden Tate burning them once again. This time with real ref’s in the game.

4: California love

The Chargers are one of those teams that I really have no love for. It is always a pleasure to beat them, even if it is in the pre-season.

And with that said, this being the first game and all, I think it’s the perfect place for the Hawks to get down and dirty and begin their quest for the Lombardi Trophy.

This game is another chance for us to really thank the lord above for taking Clipboard Jesus away from us too.

5: It’s football season!

Really the only reason to truly get excited about the pre-season is because you know that in only a months time, the games will count.

Football season brings out the best in people.

The rivalries at work, the smash talking on social media sites, and everybody’s new favorite pastime, fantasy football.

What’s not to love about this time of year?

And what’s extra special for us Seahawk fans this year is, we are the one’s everybody will be trying to take down!

Enjoy it 12th man. I know I will!
