Seahawks: NFC West Week 17 Game Capsules
The Seattle Seahawks are no longer still barely mathematically alive in the NFC wildcard race. A loss to the 49ers last week coupled with a Detroit Lions win did them in. Time for the Week 17 NFC West previews.
The Seattle Seahawks travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals. The 49ers play the St. Louis Rams in the final action of the NFL regular season.
Here’s my capsule previews and NFC West predictions for Week 17.
Good luck on your NFL bets, NFL picks, NFL Pools and whatever else your “NFL Gambling” on folks!
SEAHAWKS vs CARDINALS (Jan 1, 4:15 p.m. ET)
The Seahawks and Cardinals will not be making the playoffs this season, but the winner of this game will end the season at the .500 mark and that has to be looked at as a success since neither team was given much of a chance this year.
In the 3rd game of the season in Seattle the Seahawks beat the Cardinals 13-10 in a defensive battle.
The Cardinals had their 4-game winning streak snapped with their loss last week and the Seahawks had their 3-game winning end with last week’s loss.
Marshawn Lynch was one of the main reasons the Seahawks started winning and he has 11 straight games with a TD and has the most rushing yards in the league since week 9. He will be counted on to move the chains against an Arizona run defense that ranks 18th in the league.
Tarvaris Jackson did not play well last week and he must make some plays in this game.
The Seahawks defense has been playing well over the last half of the season and overall they rank 13th in the league both defending the pass and the run.
John Skelton has gone 5-2 since taking over at QB and the Seattle pass defense has to really keep tabs on WR Larry Fitzgerald, who made the Pro Bowl this season.
The Seahawks have beaten the Cardinals 3 straight times and I think they will win this game to end the season 8-8.
49ERS vs RAMS (Jan 1, 1 p.m. ET)
The R….Lambs (Rams) will not have the luxury of facing backups when they face the 49ers, as San Fran needs a win or a New Orleans loss to wrap up the 2nd seed in the NFC, which would assure them a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
The Rams may have a chance to pick Andrew Luck in the draft, but they need to win this game and have the Colts lose and that would assure them of the #1 pick in the draft.
In the beginning of December in San Francisco the 49ers crushed the Rams beating them 26-0. The Rams rank dead last in the league with a grand total of 15 TD all season.
The big concern in this game for the Rams is the 49ers rushing attack led by star Frank Gore and rookie Kendall Hunter. St. Louis ranks dead last in the league in run defense.
Sam Bradford may not play in this game due to an injury and if he cannot go Kellen Clemens will get another start. Whoever plays QB will likely have to carry he offense since the 49ers’ run defense is stellar and is the top ranked unit in the league.
I think this game will get ugly and the 49ers will have no problems easily winning this game.
