*My* All Time 10 Favorite Seattle Seahawks

Agree or Disagree…I don’t care!

I became a fan in 1977. The year our family made our first trip down to Seattle from Victoria B.C. to catch a game at the Kingdome.

For this Canadian kid who was 5 at the time it’s a life-long memory.  I know I know, I’m supposed to put hockey ahead of football in the sports fan pecking order…But I just can’t do it.

The Seahawks NOT the Canucks were my first sports crush.

I just feel more passion watching a game of football on Sunday’s than an NHL hockey game ever does for me. (Ask me again if Vancouver ever wins the Stanley Cup)

Being a Seahawks fan as long as I have has been the ultimate Sports roller coaster.

From the NFL expansion team years, to the Knox years, to the Flores years, the Behring years, the Paul Allen years, the Mike Holmgren years, and into the Pete Carroll + John Schneider era its been an amazing ride.

Of course there is no greater memory than the 2005 Super Bowl XL season in which our beloved Seahawks captured the NFC Conference championship at Qwest Field with an amazing win over the Panthers.

I still wake up dreaming about that hit #51 Lofa Tatupu laid on then Panthers RB Nick Goings. (Who is still shaking out the cobwebs).

Long story short, I thought I’d share with you today my ALL TIME 10 favorite Seattle Seahawks.  By no means is this an ALL-PRO list of guys. Just the 10 (Ok 13 with HR’s) Seattle Seahawks players that stood out the most to me thru the years.

Guys I wish were on the team or with the team today for sure.

Mack Strong

Mack Strong #38 – My #1 Seahawks Player EVER

Here we go folks! Enjoy.

#1. Mack Strong

Playing Height: 6-0
Weight: 253
Born: 9/11/1971 Fort Benning , GA
College: Georgia
Experience: 14 Seasons

Blocked for three 1,000-yard rushers, Chris Warren, Ricky Watters, and Shaun Alexander. In 2005 Strong was selected to his first NFL Pro Bowl and chosen as an Associated Press All-Pro. (He was snubbed more times than I care to remember!) I’ve bought his jersey’s for years. I’ve even framed one with a HUGE signed picture in the frame. Nobody exhibited more leadership and toughness on the field to me than Mack Strong. He should be in the ring of honor one day! I miss him!

#2. Matt Hasselbeck

Playing Height: 6-4 Weight: 225
Born: 9/25/1975 Boulder , CO
College: Boston College
Experience: 13th season
High School: Xaverian Brothers HS [Westwood, MA”]

My 3 year old is still sad that #8 is not on the team any longer, he still wears his jersey on Sundays! He’ll be in the ring of honor and its well deserved. The best QB the Seahawks have EVER had. What a great time we had watching Matt in Seattle. I miss him!

Walter Jones

Big Walt My #3

#3. Walter Jones

Playing Height: 6-5 Weight: 325
Born: 1/19/1974 Aliceville , AL
College: Florida State
Experience: 13 Seasons

The best Left Tackle the Seahawks have ever had. Plain and Simple. And many of us argue he’s ONE OF the best left tackles EVER in the NFL. He’ll be a Seahawks ring of honor member, a first ballot Hall of Famer, and is easily one of my FAVORITE all time Seahawks. Nobody had magical feet like this guy at the line of scrimmage. I miss him!

#4. Rufus Porter

Playing Height: 6-1 Weight: 236
Born: 5/18/1965 Amite , LA
College: Southern University
Experience: 10 Seasons

From 89-95 this guys was a beast on the Seahawks D! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUFUS! Was he fun to watch on Sunday’s or what Seahawks fans? He was so fast coming off the edge on 3rd downs that opposing offenses ALWAYS had to leave a running-back into block on third downs. He’s one of the most popular Seahawks players ever. And I miss him!

#5. Joe Nash

Playing Height: 6-3 Weight: 278
Born: 10/11/1960 Boston , MA
College: Boston College
Experience: 15 Seasons

Mr. Longevity! Nash was an undrafted free agent by the Seahawks in 82 from BC and went on to play in a record 218 career games over 15 seasons with our Seahawks. He just never missed a game. What a beast at Defensive tackle from 82-96. 47.5 career sacks, 1 INT, 2 TD’s, 1984 Pro Bowler, and too many blocked FG’s and XP’s to remember. I miss him!

#6. Brian Blades

Playing Height: 5-11 Weight: 189
Born: 7/24/1965 Fort Lauderdale , FL
College: Miami (Fla.)
Experience: 11 Seasons

Blades was the WR standout for the Seahawks from the Largent years till the Joey Galloway years. He spent his entire 11 year career with the Seahawks, playing for the team from 1988-1998. I especially remember the tandem he formed with Canadian WR Tommy Kane back in the day. (One of the Seahawks best ever) 581 receptions, 7,620 yards, 34 TD’s, 89 Pro Bowl, 89 All Pro, and on the 35th Seahawks anniversary team. I miss him!

#7. Steve Largent

Playing Height: 5-11 Weight: 187
Born: 9/28/1954 Tulsa , OK
College: Tulsa
Experience: 14 Seasons
Hall of Fame Induction: 1995

Largent spent thirteen years with the Seahawks, and if there’s a man that did more for this team in its history I’d like to meet him. His number (80) was retired in 1992. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1999, he was ranked number 46 on The Sporting News’ list of the 100 Greatest Football Players, the only Seahawk on the list. When Largent retired, he held all the major NFL receiving records. And I miss him!

#8. John L. Williams

Playing Height: 5-11 Weight: 231
Born: 11/23/1964 Palatka , FL
College: Florida
Experience: 10 Seasons

From 86-93 John L. paved the way for every Seahawks running back that came thru the doors in Kirkland. 32 TD’s out of the backfield catching and running. Don’t ever – ever forget about the contributions on the field by this Seahawks fullback. Pro Bowl in 1990 and 1991, 149 regular season games, started 135 of them, 1,245 carries for 5,005 yards. I miss him!

#9. Chad Brown

Playing Height: 6-2 Weight: 245
Born: 7/12/1970 Altadena , CA
College: Colorado
Experience: 15 Seasons

Former Steeler and Seahawk in 1997. Played inside linebacker in Pittsburgh but started outside in Seattle. He was a 2-time pro bowler, and really helped take the then Seahawks D to the next level. (104 tackles 6.5 sacks in first year) Chad Browns signing is the best thing Dennis Erickson ever did for Seattle. (Not letting him walk out the door on Browns FA trip) I miss him!

Kenny Easley

Kenny Easley My #10

#10. Kenny Easley

Playing Height: 6-3 Weight: 206
Born: 1/15/1959 Chesapeake , VA
College: UCLA
Experience: 7 Seasons

Until Earl “freakin” Thomas came along he’s the BEST Seahawks DB I’ve ever seen. Seven seasons for the Seattle Seahawks from 1981 to 1987. “Easley” I think one of the greatest Seahawks players of all-time and one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. 32 interceptions for 538 yards and 3 TD’s, and 27 punt returns for 302 yards. In 2002 Easley was elected to the Ring of Honor. And I miss him!

HR. J.P. Darche

Playing Height: 6-0 Weight: 242 Age: 36
Born: 2/28/1975 Montreal , Quebec
College: McGill (Canada)
Experience: 9 Seasons

He’s Canadian, nuff said. I miss him!

HR. Trent Dilfer

Playing Height: 6-4 Weight: 247 Age: 39
Born: 3/13/1972 Santa Cruz , CA
College: Fresno State
Experience: 14 Seasons

I thank Trent Dilfer for helping #8 become the best Seahawks QB ever. He deserves a ton of credit for that! I miss him!

HR. Mike Holmgren

June 15, 1948
San Francisco, CA
Drafted 1970 – Round 8 – Pick 201
Won 1996 Superbowl w/ Green Bay
Took Seattle to Super Bowl XL in Detroit (Loss)

The Big Show. AKA Mike Holmgren. The best Seahawks coach EVER. He’s the man that took the Seahawks to their only SuperBowl. He’s also the guy who put us on the MAP. Thanks for the memories Mike. Now he’s running the show for the Cleveland Browns, and doing a great job I might say.

I miss him!
