The game is less than a few hours away, and I’ve been thinking about what I want to see tonight. For the record I’m expecting a pretty ugly game. Expect “Grind it out football”.
Philadelphia at Seattle
When: 8:20 PM ET, Thursday, December 1, 2011
Where: CenturyLink Field, Seattle, Washington
Weather: Overcast. Chilly. 34 °F, Wind: 3.45 mph/S
LINE: Eagles -3, O/U 45.5
Here’s my “What To Watch” list for tonight’s Philadelphia vs. Seattle Thursday Night Football NFL Network game.
Tarvaris Jackson isn’t lighting up the scoreboard, he’s averaging a pathetic 182.5 yards in his last four contests. With 3 TD’s and 6 INT’s in that same time span.
I don’t know how his shoulder is feeling, though PC said he’s looked the best he’s looked since the injury a month or so back. So I guess this is encouraging.
My questions for T-Jack and the passing game tonight though will be. Will he be accurate enough?
Will Obomanu step into Rice’s shoes and perform?
Will Mike Williams actually show up at the stadium for a change?
Can Baldwin, Tate and Butler get open against the man coverage played by the Eagles DB’s?
If the stars align the Seahawks could make some plays.
I think the Eagles will be tired.
A tired Eagles team comes to town. A short week to prepare while also having to travel across the country.
Throw in the “Dream Team” struggles off the field , the loss of Michael Vick, Andy Reid’s job security, and the pressure adds up.
The Seahawks are effective when it comes to containing the run but it has shown some areas of concern when it comes to pass coverage.
The Eagles will have to pass to win!
Vince Young vs. Pete Carroll
After dropping three of its last four games, Philadelphia’s rail-thin postseason hopes rest on running the table. Can Vince Young lead this team across the country on a short week, with all the teams injuries and deliver a win to keep “the dream teams” slim chances alive?
Seattle’s defense as we all know is above average against the run. They’ll be out to stop McCoy with everything they have.
Question is will DeSean Jackson burn Brandon Browner all night long. (If he’s on, YES he will) The two-time Pro Bowler will start on Thursday.
The pressure will be on Young to deliver.
Pete Carroll and him have some history, and Pete will have a good game plan in place to stop Vince. (In my opinion of course)
Marshawn Lynch vs. LeSean McCoy
The Eagles run game is averaging 159.4 YPG good for 2nd in the NFL. The Seahawks are averaging 97.7 YPG good for 27th in the NFL. Whichever team can control more of the clock and grab the lead in the almighty TOP (Time of Possession) I believe will come out on top tonight.
LeSean McCoy the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,050 yards, received just 10 carries last weekend. The Eagles need to make sure that doesn’t happen again. For Seattle Marshawn Lynch is going to have to have a MASSIVE game tonight.
He’ll be called upon in all situations, and he’s going to have to keep drives alive with big 3rd down carries.
Lynch rushed 24 times for 111 yards on Sunday vs. the Redskins. They’ll need similar numbers OR better from him tonight.
Can The Eagles Limit Mistakes?
A team that is mentally tough can get thru all the distractions this week. I’m not 100% sure the Eagles are that team. It’s safe to assume these are two teams playing out the string. The Redskins pushed around the Seahawks defense last week, can the Eagles do the same?
This is a difficult game, a trap game if you will for the Eagles. The NFC East is not very good folks. The NFC West is worse. (49ers aside)
The win is there for the taking 12th man. But the Seahawks will need an all-world effort from their defense, and Lynch, Tarvaris Jackson, Mike Williams and Ben Obomanu need to have their best games of the season.
On the national stage no less.
My Prediction? This game will be decided by a FG.
PS. Zach Miller can you please remember to make it to Century Link field tonight and start earning some of that money we’ve paid you? Signed “The 12th Man”.
