Seahawks host Jags in Week 3 action

Seahawks Open a Staggering 19 1/2 Point Favorites Over Jaguars

The Seattle Seahawks officially stamped themselves as one of the teams to beat this year with their 29-3 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. Their reward? A Week 3 home encounter with a team that is widely regarded as the worst team in the NFL, and rightfully so.

Jacksonville, winless on the season, enters off a 19-9 loss to the lowly Oakland Raiders a week after a 22-2 loss to KC in Week 1, while the Hawks are riding the wave and the 12th man after their impressive win on National Television Sunday night.

How bad has Jacksonville been this season? They have scored just one touchdown all year (it came after 57 minutes into Game 2) and are now facing the reality that an ineffective backup QB will be at the helm and their only real offensive weapon, Maurice Jones-Drew is dealing with a tendon sprain in his surgically repaired ankle.

Jacksonville has scored 11 points, they’ve allowed 11 sacks and they don’t have a single run of 11+ yards – stats that are a true reflection of what this team really is.

This team offensively failed to register a first down for a 35 minute span against an unflattering Oakland defense as well.

Its ugly folks with no real sense of optimism going forward.

Poor Chad Henne. (Photo:

That’s the offense – offensive! But the Jacksonville defense has been equally offensive. This unit was unable to stop the uber-stoppable Darren McFadden last week. Did you hear that Marshawn?

The Seattle Seahawks were impressive in their Week 2 beat down of the San Francisco 49ers but the offensive numbers certainly don’t jump off the page!

Russell Wilson was terrific in Carolina and was just OK against the Niners while Marshawn Lynch struggled against Carolina and was terrific this past Sunday night.

On the bright side – the Seahawks are balanced and each part of the offense is able to pick the other one up when necessary.

The real stars of Seattle’s show has been the defense!

Richard Sherman, who was just named NFC Defensive Player of the Week was on Sunday and the defensive line, which looked like a bit of an Achilles Heel last year has been very effective this year in limiting the potency of Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernik – not an easy feat!

They also held Frank Gore to 1.8 yards per carry – not a good sign for Maurice Jones-Drew.

Chad Henne will be a picnic compared to Kaepernik and Newton – look for Seattle to dominate. This is their one cake walk game. Hopes are that they don’t look past the Jags.

Dave B’s Free Won’t Cost You Anything Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 8-0 in SEA last 8 games in September.
• SEA are 24-9-1 ATS in their last 34 games overall.
• Over is 7-3 in SEA last 10 games on fieldturf.

There is absolutely no way that the Seahawks lose this game – no way. But a 19 1/2 point spread scares me!

Although the Jaguars are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games, and 0-5 straight-up in their last five, I could see them catching Seattle napping at times throughout the game.

The Jags are bad, but 19 1/2 points is a ridiculous spread!

Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars to cover the 19 1/2 points.
