48 days till we play the Chargers! Seahawks mini camp update

And so we wait…

Thursday August 8th at 7pm is not getting here quick enough!

Usually mini camp is the first time that a coaching staff has an opportunity to se the entire roster together.  This year the Seattle Seahawks had nearly 100% attendance during the teams OTA’s.

All this extra time together, along with the teams lowest turn-over rate since Pete Carroll and John Schneider have taken over, should give the team a big jump start heading into this years training camp.

Tight End

Pete Carroll spoke highly about Sean McGrath and indicated that he was running with the first team offense while Zach Miller was sidelined with what Pete is calling a sore left foot.

I thought it was a forgone conclusion that rookie Luke Willson would wind up the teams second tight end but it looks like we might have a battle on our hands.

Another player Carroll was high on is 2nd year linebacker Korey Toomer.  Toomer was drafted by the Seahawks in the 5th round of last years draft.  After he suffered a shoulder injury he was cut by the team and signed to the practice squad.

Korey said that he used that time to become a stronger player and that he is ready to prove it by earning a spot on the roster.

The Legion

We all know how much of an impact the Legion of Boom has on football games.  When I hear Earl Thomas talking about how much he is learning from Antoine Winfield I get very excited.

The Seahawks secondary was extremely talented last season but Marcus Trufant was playing out of position at nickelback and opposing teams took advantage.

The addition of Winfield should clear that up on the field and it sounds like he’s having a positive effect on the rest of the teams secondary.

I have to think the Legion is going to be even better this season, barring injuries.

Weapons

On the other side of the ball Percy Harvin gives Russell Wilson the type of dynamic receiver that very few quarterbacks get the luxury to have.  I am not sure what all that is going to mean on the field, but I am definitely excited to find out come September.

Doug Baldwin had a tough sophomore season after his breakout rookie campaign.  This week all I am hearing is that he has been working really hard this offseason.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn some heads during training camp and become a bigger part of the teams offense even with the addition of Harvin.

BUQB

It is also important to note that the Seahawks released Jerrod Johnson and signed Tarvaris Jackson to compete with Brady Quinn for the backup quarterback job.  Personally I think that it will be a fun position battle to watch during the preseason.

There should be a lot of fun position battles to watch during training camp and preseason this year.

I am so excited for it to start in a month or so.
