Perennial bowl bound Oregon State dipped last season going 5-7 and while the Beavers have talent this season they have to find some guys to fill the shoes of RB Jacquizz Rodgers, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards last season.
Oregon State is at +20000 to win it all and even those long odds may be a bit generous.
The Beavers have several RB’s on the roster, but none with the talent to be a 1,000-yard rusher so OSU will have a RB by committee backfield.
Where the Beavers may shine on offense is the passing game led by returning QB Ryan Katz, who passed for over 2,400 yards with 18 TD and 11 INT last season.
He has WR Markus Wheaton and H-back Joe Halahuni, but the big question is how will WR James Rodgerscome back? He was granted another year of eligibility after blowing out his knee last season, but he has been slow to recover.
If he can come back from pre-injury form the Beavers may have a prolific passing attack.
The defense is the big issue this season for the Beavers, as they lost 7 starters and they only ranked 109th in the nation last season in stopping teams on 3rd down. OSU returns the main guys of S Lance Mitchell and DT Dominic Glover, but there are no future stars on D and their pass defense may be torched through the air.
The D line lost 3 starters including stud DT Stephen Paea and the Beavers will be thin up front this season. The new players for OSU on D have to step up right away and perform or the offense will really have to light up the scoreboard to bail them out.
Facing preseason #11 Wisconsin on the road is a major test for the Beavers, but at least they play Stanford, Arizona, BYU, an Washington at home before facing Oregon on the road in their last game of the season.
