Colorado Buffaloes vs. Oregon Ducks: love ’em & hate ’em

Colorado 14 – Oregon 70

As expected, the Oregon Ducks took to the field on Saturday afternoon and completely dismantled the Colorado Buffaloes. Scoring 28 points in the first and second quarters, the Ducks raced out to a 56-0 halftime lead that eliminated any though that Colorado would have any shred of hope against Oregon.

De’Anthony Thomas, versatile extraordinaire, showcased his skills as he scored two touchdowns: one on the ground and one on one of the most ridiculous punt returns you will ever see.

All in all the Ducks did what they were supposed to do heading into a big game against the USC Trojans next week.

With that said, here are this week’s love ’em and hate ’em from Oregon’s contest against the Colorado Buffaloes.

Love ‘Em

Starters Well Rested

One of the big things that was potentially scary about Saturday afternoon’s contest between the Ducks and Buffaloes was the fact that Oregon could have come away from this game banged up before USC week.

Luckily for the Ducks, all of their players remained healthy throughout the entire game, giving them a full and loaded roster for this next week’s preparation for the trip down to Los Angeles to take on the Trojans.

While it would be nice to see the Oregon starters play more than two quarters, it is more than beneficial that the Ducks will be ready and healthy for a USC team that will be seeking blood on Saturday night.

Doing Everything Needed to be Done

As mentioned before, the Ducks did everything that they needed to do to keep their position in the human polls of the BCS. Marcus Mariota was efficient, Kenjon Barner was once again a superstar, and the Ducks cruised to a lead that never saw Colorado have a chance in this one.

As soon as the Buffaloes stepped on the field, unfortunately, the game was over

Primed for USC

One of the forgotten things about this Colorado game being right before Oregon’s USC game is the fact that like USC, Colorado runs a pro-style offense. Though it is nowhere near as potent as USC’s offensive system, the Ducks had not faced a pro-style offense in 2012 and it was good that their defense was able to see one before taking on Matt Barkley, Robert Woods, and Marqise Lee.

Hate ‘Em

USC, Oregon State Lose

Though the Ducks are No. 2 in both human polls part of the BCS, the Ducks remain unfavored by the computers, thus placing them in the No. 4 position in the overall BCS Standings (we will see how much that changes in this week’s edition as the BCS was completely shaken up after a thrilling Saturday of college football).

One of the things Oregon fans were counting on to get to the BCS Title should other teams go undefeated the season is the fact that the latter half of their schedule would vastly improve their strength of schedule, thus giving them higher positioning in the computer polls.

Unfortunately for the Ducks, both USC and Oregon State, Oregon’s top remaining opponents in terms of BCS Rankings, lost on Saturday, likely hurting Oregon’s strength of schedule.

More than anything the Ducks actually wanted these two teams to stay undefeated until they faced Oregon. Though we will not know how many spots these teams fall until later, it can be expected that these wins won’t look as impressive as before in the computers, hurting Oregon’s chances of making it into the BCS National Championship.
