2011 Civil War: OSU Beavers vs. Oregon Ducks Week 13 Handicapping Preview

OSU Beavers (3-8) at Oregon Ducks (9-2)

Oregon is coming off an upset loss to USC, but if they can win this big Civil War game against OSU they will play in the first ever Pac 12 title game and be in the driver’s seat to play in the Rose Bowl.

Favorite: Oregon -28

Oregon State has had a nightmare of a season, but they are coming off a solid win over Washington last week and they can end the season on a high note if the can beat the Ducks.

The key in this game may be Oregon and their 5th ranked rushing offense facing an OSU run defense that only ranks 83rd in the nation.

Can Oregon State keep the Oregon RB duo of LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner from racking up a ton of yards on the ground? Big question.

Last week James struggled, but that was facing a solid USC run defense.

LaMichael James

Last week LaMichael James struggled, but that was facing a solid USC run defense.

Last season in Oregon’s 37-20 win over Oregon State the Ducks rushed for 346 yards with James and Barner combining to rush for 267 yards.

If that happens again the Beavers are toast.

The Ducks do not air it out much with QB Darron Thomas, but he has a couple of legit WR’s. However, the run defense still the key for the Beavers. In their previous 2 losses before the Washington win OSU gave up a ton of rushing yards to Cal and Stanford.

Beavers vs. Ducks Free Prediction

Oregon did not play good pass defense against USC’s pass defense last week and this week they have to contain OSU’s Sean Mannion, who passed for 339 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT in the win over Washington.

The Beavers’ rushing offense only ranks 116th in the nation, but last week they were solid rushing for 145 yards.

They have to pick up some yards on the ground to take some pressure off Mannion.

Even though the Beavers won last week they committed 3 turnovers and if that happens again they will get killed.

I think this game will be just like last season’s Civil War game, as the Ducks will rush for a ton of yards and there is no way the offense of the Beavers will be able to keep up.

On top of all the Beavers have going against them in this game there is a 40% chance of rain, which only helps the Ducks since they have such a great ground game.    Oregon -28 is a HUGE spread but gamblers have to like this one. 49 – 17 final.
