Oregon Ducks Football History Top 5 Players

While the 2011 Oregon Ducks football team has its share of Heisman Trophy candidates and future NFL stars, there are plenty of past cogs in the finely tuned Eugene Machine that changed the course  of an Oregon football program over the decades, as much as it changes uniform schemes.

Let’s take a look at my Top 5 Ducks Football Players of All Time!

The first player that comes to mind is Dan Fouts, who has to be one of the best Ducks of all-time who went on to have a Hall of Fame NFL career at quarterback.

He established 19 school records while at Oregon and will forever be immortalized for throwing the winning pass in what many consider the most exciting football game in school history, a three-touchdown rally at UCLA in 1970.

Then of course there is Haloti Ngata, one of the most dominating defensive lineman in the nation during his tenure at Oregon.

Big and strong, the 338-pound Ngata exhibited impressive quickness and agility blocking kicks before being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL.

Before suffering through an NFL career with the Detroit Lions, quarterback Joey Harrington displayed the charisma that few athletes in Oregon annals, instilling the belief among those around him of invincibility.

He finished his college career with a 25-3 record, including bowl wins against 12th-ranked Texas and 3rd-ranked Colorado.

Before becoming Ahmad Rashad, Bobby Moore posted three record-setting seasons  as he rushed for 2,306 yards, caught 131 passes and scored 226 points. All marks that stood for 18 years.

His receiving total is still the best-ever at Oregon.

Our list wouldn’t be complete without including elite running back Jonathan Stewart who ran for a school-record 1,722 yards, averaging 132.5 yards a game, including 11 touchdowns on the ground and two TD passes in his junior year before being drafted by the Carolina Panthers.
