Here is my 2012 MLS SuperDraft mock draft including my top 5 picks. (Version 1.0 Dec 1st, 2011)

1. Montreal Impact – FW Darren Mattocks – Akron

The Impact want to make an impact with their top pick and they can do that by taking one of the best strikers in the class in Akron’s Darren Mattocks.

Mattocks scored 18 goals as a freshman and what is more impressive is that he scored 18 again in his sophomore season even though Akron had 7 players drafted to the MLS and had another 2 players transfer.

Duke DF Andrew Wenger may go #1, but expansion teams like to make a splash on offense in their first season so I think Mattocks will be the top pick.

2. Vancouver Whitecaps – DF Andrew Wenger -Duke

Wenger is the best defender in the SuperDraft and Vancouver really needs some help on D and he also can push forward and score with 17 goals on the season at Duke.

3. New England Revolution – MF Enzo Martinez

North Carolina – Martinez is a solid midfielder from North Carolina that scored 10 goals as a sophomore and is a solid player in the midfield.

The Revolution also may have interest in MF Kelyn Rowe, but he did not have a great sophomore season after his solid freshman season.

4. Toronto FC – FW Billy Schuler – North Carolina

Toronto is targeting a forward, as they definitely need more scoring and if Mattocks is off the board, which he will be, than they will go with the next best striker and that is Schuler.

However, Toronto also has major issues on defense and they may go for a defender with the 4th pick and then try to get a legit striker with the 12th pick they got from the New York Red Bulls.

If that is the case than they may go for DF Austin Berry from Louisville or DF Christian Ibeagha from Duke.

5. Chivas USA – MF Kelyn Rowe – UCLA

Rowe may be the most talented player in the draft, but, again, he did not have the best sophomore season. Chivas USA could use some stability in their midfield and with him playing at UCLA the club had several chances to scout him this season and reports are they like what they saw.

DF Austin Berry from Louisville and MF Matt Lodge from Kentucky are also possible choices for Chivas.

The 2012 SuperDraft order is:

1     Montreal Impact
2     Vancouver Whitecaps FC
3     New England Revolution
