Matchup Insight M’s vs. Royals Game 4
The Mariners took the first two games of the series scoring a whopping 18 runs total – a rare barrage for the team ranked 24th in scoring amongst all Big League clubs.
Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals
Thursday July 19
Moneyline: Kansas City +105
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (7-5, 2.92 ERA) vs. Royals LH Will Smith (1-2, 9.00)
The Mariners’ last series victory on the road came from June 4-6, when they won two of three against the Los Angeles Angels.
They have scored that many or more runs in back to back game two other times this season and scored an average of just 4.5 runs the next time out.
It is still an improvement over what they normally produce and just might be enough considering who is dealing for the Ms.
That would be King Felix Hernandez who was just spectacular his last time out – probably the best game that wasn’t a no-no all year long.
Amazingly, in more than half of his starts he has given up either one or zero runs, yet his record is only 7-5.
The King has yet to face the Royals this season. Similar to his career number the won-loss against the Royals is nothing great but the peripherals are admirable.
If you are playing at home and getting torched by the Mariner’s it does not bode very well for your team.
Sure Royals are light in the pitching department but it is not like they were facing the 1927 Yankees.
This year was supposed to be a turning point for Kansas City but some of their key young hitters have regressed and no one on the pitching staff has stepped forward.
This team is sinking fast.
Will Smith starts for KC. Who?
Smith was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to make his fourth career start. The 23-year-old rookie did not fare well in his last outing with the Royals, surrendering seven runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Minnesota.
Smith will be facing the Mariners for the first time.
I am not sure what that says about either party.
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Seattle 5 – Kansas City 1
