PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Hector Noesi (1-2, 9.49 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Rick Porcello (1-1, 6.32 ERA)

Heading into Thursday night’s game against Detroit, Seattle is right where you would expect. They have a sub .500 record and are nestled in third place in the American League West.

With Texas off to a monster start they are already 6 games out of first place and looking to possibly reach .500 before their weekend series against the Blue Jays.

If they can keep beating Detroit.

Like me you are probably wondering who Hector Noesi is. The answer might be a minor leaguer if he doesn’t show some consistency soon.

He has made three starts, sandwiching a great outing versus Oakland with a couple of forgettable outcomes. He was part of the package from New York in the Pineda/Jesus Montero swap, so at least the M’s can say he is giving them more than the Yankees are getting from Pineda so far.

Speaking of Montero, he is not killing it but he is tied for team leads in homers and RBI.

The Tigers are supposed to be the prohibitive favourite in the American League Central…but heading into Wednesday they are in a virtual tie with both Chicago and Cleveland. Detroit dropped the series opener to Seattle and are down early against Felix Hernandez and the M’s on Wednesday night.

I wouldn’t be in panic mode Tigers fans but the notion that they were going to be unchallenged in the division this year might have been premature.

The main reason for the Tigers struggles is that other than Justin Verlander only rookie Drew Smyly has been reliable in the rotation.

Rick Porcello looked good in his first two starts but was just awful against Texas last week, not even completing two innings of work and killing the pen in the process.

The Mariners are not the Rangers and Porcello has done well against them in the past (3-1 in five starts).

O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Detroit 7 – Seattle 4
