*MLB Matchup Report*
PITCHING MATCHUP: Seattle LH Jason Vargas (4-2, 2.79 ERA) vs. Boston LH Jon Lester (1-3, 4.29 ERA).
Seattle
The Mariners were able to ruin Andy Pettite’s return to Yankee Stadium and salvage a win from their road series against the Yankees on Sunday.
Now they are off to Fenway Park to face a Red Sox team dealing with struggles on the field and off the field turmoil. The timing might be right but the Mariners don’t exactly love New England Clam Chowder – they were just 2-4 at Boston last year but Jason Vargas started one of those games.
Vargas has been a pleasant surprise for the Mariners this year with numbers that are second to King Felix Hernandez on the club in every category – except wins. Vargas leads the team with 4 even though the team is just 4-4 in his 8 starts.
Vargas’ last outing was his best of the year holding Detroit to just one run over 8 innings.
That was at home where he is much sharper pitcher.

Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox gambling lines & preview
Boston
The Boston Red Sox roughed up Cleveland Sunday, collecting their third win in a row over the Tribe. But this team is still struggling overall having won just 4 of their last 10.
They are in last place in the American League East and are showing little reason to think they might swap spots with the first place Orioles.
I didn’t like the makeup of this club heading into this season and with injuries and more they are in a very bad spot.
Seeing the Mariners might enable them to extend their winning ways and normally you would like Jon Lester on the hill but something has been off with the southpaw this year.
The Red Sox are just 2-5 when he starts and it is not just bad luck. They are hitting him hard. Even with some key players out of the lineup thought the Sox can still swing it.
They are third in runs scored this year led by a surprisingly resurgent David Ortiz.
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Boston 6 – Seattle 5
