It is just hard to see how this team is going to close the gap with the Rangers and Angels…especially with moves like picking up retread starter Oliver Perez.
Starting Wednesday is lefty Jason Vargas who leads the club with a respectable 7 wins. Better than that is the fact that he has never lost to the Diamondbacks while posting some very good peripherals.
Vargas doesn’t dominate but the lefty has some savvy and can keep the M’s in the game. Especially if the offense comes alive like it did Tuesday (8 runs already scored at time of writing).
Good value on Seattle Wednesday.

Arizona entered Tuesday looking to get back to .500.

They are in third in the NL West and even though there is a significant gap between them and the leading Dodgers they can keep the interest high with the extra playoff spot this year.
Pre-season many thought this would be the team to beat but injuries and poor performance have dampened expectations.
Maybe things are coming around.
Speaking of expectations it seems that Trevor Cahill maybe getting back to the form that looked like it would make him one of the top young pitchers in the American League with Oakland.
This year he is walking more batters than he should but balancing that by not giving up too many hits.
He has won his last three game and given up just 2 runs over his last 23 innings. If he can stay sharp from here on out the D-Backs have plenty of pitching to get them over the hump.
