Ichiro still making Mariner headlines
In 2004, when Ichiro Suzuki was chasing the single season hits record there were many ways to keep track of his hits. You could read a Mariners boxscore, check out a stats database or scan the news for updates.
Or, you could have checked out the Ichimeter.
Set up in rightfield by inventor Amy Franz, the Ichimeter was a great way to keep track of Ichiro‘s hits from game-to-game.
It was constantly featured on TV, and after Ichiro did break the record (262 hits) it was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame
But that didn’t stop Franz, who continued to use an Ichimeter in right to track Suzuki’s hits each season.
And now that ultimate fan loyalty is paying off, as Franz was sent a special box of gifts and memorabilia from Ichiro Suzuki himself.
The former Mariner outfielder—now with the Yankees—wrote a special letter to Franz with the gifts, stating her sign as “constant inspiration to me.”
No matter how you feel about Ichiro, you have to admit this is a pretty cool thing for him to do.
