HOFamers unite
This weeks column is all about the Big Unit Randy Johnson, and Dan the man Wilson.
On Saturday each player was inducted into the most sacred of halls for former Seattle Mariners players, the Mariners Hall of Fame.
As the battery for not only the Refuse to Lose campaign, but during the ’97 A.L. West Championship year as well, both Johnson and Wilson will forever be enshrined into Mariners history, even thought they already were prior to the formalities that took place on Saturday afternoon.
As a nod to each of them, a giant 6 was placed behind the plate, and a giant 51 behind the mound, to pay homage to each position they played during their Major League careers.
It probably didn’t help the psyche of the Royals either, knowing that the spirit of Randy Johnson was behind the rubber when they were staring down Kevin Millwood at the plate.
An unfortunate event
I heard there were some grumblings by the fans that there were not enough bobbleheads to go round, which was a shame. An induction like this only comes around once in a lifetime, and there should have been enough of each player made for the entire stadium.
Leave it to an ownership group that seems more interested in alienating its fan base than promoting it to provide such a major flub as this one.
Even in the event of celebrating two of its most storied players, ownership and marketing still feels the need to take center stage, even if it is in the negative aspect.
The video
Not much to say here, just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching it.
This is not a quick video either, unless you have about 40 minutes of free time, don’t click on the link.
But for the baseball purists, especially Mariners baseball purists, this video is for you.
Enjoy.
