Mariners Pitchers to Watch Through September

2012 Mariners Pitching Predictions

Despite what is happening at the moment, the future of the Mariners franchise looks bright. The M’s are using the final weeks of the season to audition for next year’s top spots.

Mariners Pitchers to Watch Through September

Here are some things to watch for that can distract you from the runs totals for the rest of September:

Starting rotation for 2012:

1. Felix
2. Pineda
3. Vargas
4. Bevan
5. ???

What to watch for now:

The M’s will leave young rookies, Charlie Furbush, Anthony Vasquez and Blake Bevan in to face pressure situations on the mound.

This will be hard to watch as the opposing teams will take advantage of the situation, but it will help to see who can maintain composure in big league situations and get their name in first consideration before spring training hits in February.

There is also a few contenders that will be added to the mix in spring training as uber prospects James Paxton and Danny Hultzen enter the 40 man roster.

Bullpen for 2012

1. Jamey Wright
2. Tom Wilhelmsen
3. Shawn Kelley
4. Josh Leuke
5. Chance Ruffin
6. ???

What to watch for now:

The Mariners will be looking to add a lefty to the bullpen so look to them to pitch Cesar Jimenez a bit more.

He wasn’t quite ready last spring which is why the M’s added Aaron Laffey. I expect they will stay within the farm system for the upcoming year.

They may also transition Furbush and Vasquez to the pen which is another reason why they would be getting extended playing time now. The M’s also made a surprise move adding Steve Delabar to the 40 man roster and bringing him into the pen.

He is a relatively inexperienced player so it will be interesting to see if his mental game is ready for the show.

Closer for 2012

1. ???

The closing role is a bit of mystery as David Aardsma and Brandon League will both hold reasonable trade value during the off season.

Watch Wedge allow some younger arms to throw in the later innings for assessment as set up men or even alternative closers into next season.
