mariners

My oh My! Top play of the week for the Seattle Mariners (video)

All hail the King

This was originally going to be a piece about Eric Thames first home run as a Seattle Mariner, but since I couldn’t find any video coverage of it this late, I thought I’d go to the old stand-by, Felix Hernandez.

In one of his best outings in the bigs, King Felix went 9 innings strong in the Bronx, giving up two hits en route to a complete game shutout of the Yankees.

With his numbers in Yankee stadium getting better with every start there, one can only assume the Yankees will come calling about his availability soon enough.

The Mariners have the pieces in place to have a damn good rotation in the future with Hernandez, Jason Vargas, Danny Hultzen, and Taijuan Walker, plus throw in Blake Beavan, and this is what winning teams are made of.

But that is a story for the future, this is a story for now. Felix Hernandez doing what he does best!

The video

For win number 10 on the year, Felix let it all hang out.

This video is a collection of not only some sick strikeouts, but also some pretty nice defensive plays.

As in every quality start, whether it’s a shutout, no-hitter, or just a dominant performance, defense needs to be just as amazing as the pitcher toeing the rubber.

From the shift that Eric Wedge put on for Mark Texiera working perfectly, or to Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley showing their range in the field, everybody was on their A game Saturday morning in New York.

A nice 5-4-3 double play started by Kyle Seager, plus a nice little chopper straight down the first base line to Mike Carp, this video showcases all of the great plays that helped Felix bring his win total to 4 at the new Yankee Stadium.

Felix is pitching like the Cy Young Award winner that he is, I don’t know exactly what happened in July, but what ever it was, it worked.

His numbers are among the leagues best in the last month plus, and it doesn’t look like they are going to be slowing down anytime soon.

Now if only the bats could be more consistent.
