Felix hits 1,500 K’s
A milestone is always worthy of a top play of the week, and this week Felix Hernandez notched a strikeout milestone.
Though he is still in search of another milestone, career win number 100, this past one was enough to hold us over until Wednesday I think.
When a team is struggling, it is important to notice the little things that they do end up doing right, and even in the loss, Felix got his glory.
The final pitch
With an 0-2 count, chances are Felix Hernandez is going to get you out one way or another. This time it happened to be Texas Rangers outfielder David Murphy’s turn.
Catcher Jesus Montero set up on the outside part of the plate, and Felix didn’t disappoint his battery mate, delivering a nice little 93 MPH fastball on the outside corner.
Murphy didn’t even flinch at the ball. He just turned to see where Jesus caught it as Felix calmly walked off the mound toward the Mariners dugout.
Unfortunately, that would be the last time of the night we would see Felix look so dominant.
The Rangers got the best of us, as they went on to beat the Mariners, for their third loss in as many games.
Old friend says congrats
Even though he suits up in a different clubhouse now, Adrian Beltre continues to be great friends with Felix Hernandez.
Beltre embraced Felix on the field after his 1,500th K.
A sign that even on the fiercest stage in this sport, friendships overcome everything else in the world. All this was missing was a kiss, a la Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas.
Check back next week for Felix’s 100th victory video. He matches up against Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers Wednesday night.
