Is it over yet?
Upcoming Match Ups
The M’s finish up their home stand against the Baltimore Orioles for a 3 game set, including a special Holiday home game on the 4th of July. They will then head to Oakland for the last 3 games before the All Start break.
Lets hope the 4 days off will be a good breath of fresh air for the struggling team.
From Sunday the 24th of June to Sunday July 1st the M’s have collected just 9 runs and 3 wins. The Mariners are exactly half way through the season and have compiled just 34 wins in 81 games, putting them in last place in the AL West.
The Good News
Trying to think of some… um…. How about our All Star?
Felix Hernandez was selected as the M’s representative for the All Star game. The M’s ace has struggled this season so the selection was not made by the players votes but from manager Ron Washington’s personal selection.
If there wasn’t a rule about all the teams being represented, I’m not sure he would have made it this year. The good news is that he had the best game of the season in his last outing.
He pitched a complete game shut out against Boston.
The Bad News
Stress from a season that is frustrating to everyone is taking its toll, Franklin Gutierrez is out with a concussion, Kevin Millwood has a weak groin, Erasmo Ramirez has a strained elbow, Michael Saunders has a wonky flu, and on and on it goes.
The M’s cant catch a break.
Roster Moves / Trades
Franklin Gutierrez was placed on the 7 day disabled list and Steve Delabar was promoted to take the roster spot. This gives the M’s fewer options off the bench for the next week.
Remember Adam Moore? Me either. The continually injured catcher was designated for assignment after the M’s lost Erasmo Ramirez to the DL and added Josh Kinney to the 40 man and 25 man Major League roster.
Frankin Gutierrez can’t catch a break or catch a ball with his face. After a pick off move to first floored the M’s center fielder, he was back on the DL.
Erasmo Ramirez jumped for a ball that came back toward the mound and strained his elbow. He is on the 15 day disabled list.
Kevin Millwood will miss a start due to a re-injured groin muscle but was not put on the DL just yet.
Mike Carp has been a regular on the DL this season and continues his recovery.
Stephen Pryor, the big rookie sensation is getting to experience life on the DL. Getting paid the big bucks to sit and watch baseball. I need that gig.
Michael Saunders has missed several games due to flu like symptoms. Too bad, he was wanting more playing time and with Guti out this was his chance.
George Sherill is enjoying retirement, or surgery recovery, I’m not sure which it is.
