Ups and downs plague this team
Welcome to the State of the Seattle Mariners update for the 2012 regular season. In these weekly updates you will find all the information and news regarding the Seattle Mariners Baseball Franchise.
Upcoming Match Ups
Due to the All Star Break, the Mariners don’t play again until Friday when they take on Texas for a 3 game set at Safeco.
The Mariners will not have an off day until August 2nd.
Recent Results
From Sunday to Sunday the Mariners offensive efforts continued to be dismal.
The team went 5-2 to finish the first half of the baseball season 26-51.
They have a lot of work to make it into the predicted 3rd place in the AL West for this season.
The Good News
The return of the King
After a lot of concern about Felix Hernandez, the last two weeks have shown that he is still worthy of his title.
During that stretch he has 27 strike outs in 22 innings, a WHIP of 1.05 leaving him with an ERA of 2.05.
The Bad News
The defeated
I could list off the entire batting order.
Look into the eyes of the players and the spark that was seen in the beginning of the season just isn’t there.
They look tired, lost and complacent.
Who is to blame?
Roster Moves / Trades
Adam Moore who was designated for assignment last week, was picked up by the Kansas City Royals where he will probably start a hall of fame career.
Injury Report
Mike Carp and Stephen Pryor both reported to High Desert to begin their rehab assignments.
No All Star break for these fellows. This could be good news as they will be ready to go early into the second season.
Jesus Montero suffered a minor concussion but missed a DL stint due to the All Star break falling when it did.
Hopefully this knocked some sense into him.
Gossip
Justin Smoak has hit only 1 home run in the past month and his batting average is hovering around .152 for June/July.
It is a strong possibility that he will be sent down to Tacoma to sort himself out while Mike Carp could take over at first which would be easier on his shoulder than the outfield.
Do you detect a bitter M’s fan? What a shocking thing.
