The BC Lions kick off 2012 with home date versus Blue Bombers
The training camps are over – it’s time to focus on the real deal finally! The BC Lions kick off their season this Friday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers – a team that the Lions defeated soundly in the very last game of the 2011 season.

It’s finally here folks – the Lions attempt to defend the big prize starts Friday!!
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are surprisingly third choice to win the CFL’s Eastern Division this year.
From a talent perspective alone maybe this team deserves to be in the shadows of the Hamiltons and the Torontos of their division. To add to this notion this week saw the Bombers received possibly the worst news they could have imagined.
Their top running back, Chris Garrett who was very effective against BC in the Gray Cup last year has been lost for the season with an Achilles injury.
The Bombers are already behind the eight ball on offense – Buck Pierce will be in charge of an average offense and will also be in charge of doing the nearly impossible – keeping himself healthy!
It’s a good thing for the defense that was the surprise of the league last year. Perhaps the most pressure Friday will be on Winnipeg’s secondary.
Jovon Johnson won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 – he’s a Stud! Jonathan Hefney is Johnson’s counterpart – these two have to be sensational if the Bombers hope to be competitive. They certainly are good – but sensational?
Ahhh the Lions!
They are favored to win the West and take home the Grey Cup again in 2012. On paper, there is absolutely no reason to think that they can’t.
The offense is elite and the defense despite missing a few key starters from last year should be just fine.
Travis Lulay enters his first season as the unquestioned started on the team – he only got better as last season went along culminating in the Most Outstanding Player award at the Grey Cup.
Lulay is plain scary and with his stable of weapons it is difficult to see any defenses slowing them down. History could be made of Friday – Geroy Simon is only 67 yards away from becoming the all-time leader in receiving yards.
BC’s defense is the only real question mark ahead of Friday’s game and it is a very small question mark at that.
Gone are Aaron Hunt, Brent Johnson and Solomon! Something tells me that the system that has been magic over the past couple of seasons will be just that again!

The Lions appear to be in a different class than the Bombers even though there may be some rust for the Lions being Week 1. But the Lions looked very good in the preseason – they are ready to go.
The Bombers will be without a key weapon on Friday – Chris Garrett – it is going to ALL be up to a marginal Buck Pierce.
The seven points looks like a gift to me but take a look at the Under here too. Under is 40-18-1 in Winnipeg’s last 59 road games. Under is 11-4 in BC’s last 15 games overall.
It is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in BC and is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings overall.
Pick: take the Lions in a walk -7 and the Under – 51 points
