Two of the best quarterbacks of 2011 square off in what has the potential to be the game of the year!
Montreal lost its chance at putting a stranglehold on the Eastern Conference race with two straight losses – one to Winnipeg and the other to Calgary. Now, Montreal needs a win coupled with a Winnipeg loss in order to clinch their sixth straight Eastern Conference crown.
It has been a long time since the Alouettes had this much to play for this late in the season – they should be ready to play!
As long as Montreal has Anthony Calvillo under center, they have a chance to win. He will finish the season as the league leader in yards touchdown passes, completion percentage and the list goes on.
He will have the benefit of the league leader in rushing (Brandon Whitaker) and the league leader in almost every receiving category (Jamel Richardson).
It is safe to say that the Alouettes are stacked offensively – now if the defense would step up!
Montreal’s defense has been bad all season long – they are clearly the weak link on the team. The Alouettes have had trouble stopping anybody and now have the pleasure of trying to slow a BC offense that has been on a roll over their last 11 games.
There is no way that after five games of the 2011 season that anyone could have predicted that the BC Lions would be playing for first in the West in the final week of the season.
It has been a historic turn-around for the team both offensively and defensively. The Lions’ fate is in their own hands and that is just fine with them!
Travis Lulay has had a breakout campaign. Barring a miracle he will finish behind Anthony Calvillo in most QB categories except for completion percentage – an area that he has struggled in this year.
He also has an emerging Andrew Harris in the backfield.
Harris has been reliable and productive this season. If he struggles, BC can go to a former CFL rushing champ – Jamaal Richardson! Like the Alouettes, BC is an incredibly balanced offensive unit.
BC’s defense has been solid particularly later in the season. They could be the difference in this game. They are 2nd in the CFL in yards per game allowed (328.1) and they give up the second least points in the league (22.6).
The Lions defense has been clicking on all cylinders and will be a tremendous test for the best offense in the game – the Alouettes.

The Montreal Alouettes are 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS on the road this season. They are 4-1 SU in the last five meetings with BC but are a miserable 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus the Lions. BC is 5-3 SU and 4-4 ATS at home this season.
There are two factors that play into the hands of the BC Lions ahead of Saturday night’s showdown – they are superb at BC Place Stadium and they have the superior defense. It will be a fun ride but expect the Lions to slow the Alouettes offense enough to get it done before an amped home crowd.
An insane CFL Regular season will come to a close with the BC Lions winning the West and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers taking the East!
Pick: BC Lions -3
