Moments In Time: Geroy Simon tops Milt Stegall’s CFL receiving yards record

Geroyalty: Simon Crowned CFL Receiving Leader

Superman is supposed to wear blue tights with a red cape, but for the past 11 years he has taken on the colours of orange and black, emblazoned with the number 81 instead of the customary “S”.

In a storied career, the Lions‘ Simon will finally top the charts as the greatest receiver in the CFL.

And like the original Superman, Geroy Simon was humble in celebration, taking the time to share his crowning achievement with his loyal and faithful fans.

Wanting us to share in his moment of excellence.

In a gracious and unpretentious ceremony the torch was passed after Travis Lulay hit the speedy Slotback on a well executed 56 yard strike down the right sideline.

Even before Geroy hit the turf the crowd at BC Place was on its’ feet. There was no orange, there was no blue, there was only Geroy.

29,351 people all cheering for the same man.  Rarely does that happen, but people tend to forget about what separates them when in the presence of a Superhero.

15,192 and counting.  Congratulations Geroy.

On the night of his signature moment I thought it would be appropriate to take a quick look back at the accomplishments of #81

  • 94th Grey Cup champion
  • 99th Grey Cup champion
  • CFL All-Star:
  • 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011
  • CFL West All-Star:
  • 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011
  • CFL MOP (2006)
  • 9 consecutive 1000 yard seasons
  • 98 career Touchdowns
  • 2 Touchdown Passes
  • And now just 80 catches shy of setting the all-time mark for completions.

With the 99th Grey Cup banner securely fastened to the rafters of BC Place, shut the lights and close the doors, Superman has left the building.
