Eskimos (2-1) vs. Lions (2-1)
Battle of the 2-1 teams – BC hosts Edmonton Friday night
Second place in the CFL’s Western Division is on the line on Friday night when the Edmonton Eskimos, fresh off an impressive 42-10 beat down of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit the BC Lions who played well enough to win but fell 23-20 to Saskatchewan in Week 3.
For the Eskimos, they are out to prove that their 2-1 record isn’t a fluke. For the Lions, they will be looking to prove that last week’s loss was!

The Edmonton Eskimos were flat out impressive last week. After scoring just one point in Week 2 they managed 42 in Week 3 and come into Friday’s Western showdown looking pretty good. It was the defense and special teams that got it done however – a fumble return touchdown and an interception return touchdown was accompanied by 12 points for the Eskimos kicker Grant Shaw.
The defense also knocked Buck Pierce out of the game.
The offense wasn’t so bad either – Steven Jyles had 272 yards passing and a touchdown while backup Kerry Joseph added two touchdowns passes of his own. Hugh Charles was the receiving star with 145 yards and he also added 51 yards on the ground.
It is safe to say that the Eskimos have peaked on both sides of the ball – confidence may be their biggest ally ahead of this huge matchup.
The BC Lions maybe deserved a better fate than the one they go last week – they outgained the Riders 460-266 in the loss. Travis Lulay had a decent game passing for 345 yards and two touchdowns but his two interceptions ended up being the difference in the game.
The Lions still enter the game with a second to last passing game behind – you guessed it – Edmonton.
BC gave up the big play on special teams last week – a 129 yard missed field goal return and Travis Lulay only completed 23 of 40 passes. They have to be better don’t they?
The defense is doing their job – now it’s time for the offense to be a little sharper and for the team to limit game changing mistakes.

The Edmonton defense is for real and with Travis Lulay completing only 59 % of his passes, this game could be a whole lot closer than most would think.
But then again the Lions at home are a totally different team.
BC has failed to cover in their last two games and while they should win the game in front of their home town crowd the Eskimos defense figures to keep their team in the game.
Take the Lions to win the game outright but the Eskimos to cover the rather large spread.
Pick: Edmonton Eskimos +8
