2012 B.C. Lions schedule game by game breakdown / predictions

Bartender’s  Lions Season forecast

A snap shot look at the sched ahead.

This was a heated debate with the boys in the pub and when the the dust settled, drinks were downed this is what I concluded.

1.)    Friday June 29th Winnipeg. Grey Cup Grudge Match Re-match. Lid Lifter to the season. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned or team losing in the championship final to the BC Lions.  Winnipeg wins this round.

2.)    Friday July 6th Hamilton. New look Tabbies bring Henry Burris and Andy Fantuz to this classic cat fight. In what will be billed as a Grey Cup preview, look for the Lions to right the ship with a win.

3.)    Saturday July 14th @ Saskatchewan.  First roadie of the season to play the Riders.  Let’s face it, they pick first in the draft for a reason.  Penalties will decide this game Lions outclass Sasky.

4.)    Friday July 20th Edmonton.  Four weeks into the season and I predict the Esks will have swapped QB’s a couple of times.  Look for a decent match-up if Steven Jyles has taken all the snaps from Kerry Joseph. But the Lions still win going away

5.)    Saturday July 28th @ Calgary. Stamps and Leos should battle for top spot in the West this year. Drew Tate is an up and coming QB in this league. This should be a barn burner with the kid Tate getting his biggest CFL victory.

6.)    Monday Aug 6th @ Toronto.  The Annual Braley Bowl, will have a wrinkle as Ricky Ray will line up under center for the Argo’s.  The West Braleys defeat the East Braleys.

7.)    Sunday Aug 19th Saskatchewan.  A big win, a bye week and a home game is a great trio of circumstance for BC.  Not so much for the Roughies as they come into BC Place to face a prepared and rested Lions team.

8.)    Friday Aug 24th @ Winnipeg.  Not twice in one season.  Lions avenge their week-one match-up and start to feel comfortable winning on the road.

9.)    Friday Aug 31st@ Montreal. The first of a back to back with the Als where I believe the Lions overall talent wins this game. Big Defensive effort.

Arland Bruce

BC Lions Arland Bruce Has “Swagger!!” An 18-0 Prediction? All the pieces are in place for a fantastic season.

10.) Saturday Sept 8th Montreal. This will be Mike Benevides toughest game as a head coach.  A quick turnaround against the same team, I think the more experienced Coach Marc Trestman and the Als take this round.

11.) Saturday Sept 15th Toronto. An enigmatic Argos team rolls into BC Place, if the Argos are faring well in the tough CFL East, this game will be close.  I believe their stiff competition wears on them this season and the Lions rout the double blue.

12.) Saturday Sept 22 @ Edmonton.  Rounding into playoff mode the Lions should calmly defeat the lowly Eskimos.

13.) Saturday Sept 29th @ Saskatchewan.  The Lions need to distance themselves from the pack and leave the cellar dwellers behind by downing the Riders. Only the late September winds of Mosaic Stadium keeps this game close.

14.) Saturday Oct 6th Calgary. Round Two with the Stamps with possible playoff seeding on the line.  Lulay shows Tate he’s not about to give up his run as the league’s top gunslinger. Lions win and lock up the West crown.

15.) Friday Oct 12th @ Hamilton.  With a playoff position secured in an emotional win the previous week, the Lions take a bit of a stumble here in David Braley’s backyard.

16.) Friday Oct 19th Edmonton. With the playoffs on the horizon the Lions focus on discipline and execution. In what amounts to a sloppy game the Lions edge out the Esks

17.) Friday Oct 26th @ Calgary.  A feisty Stampeders squad will look to secure a playoff berth and late season doldrums will see the Lions go down in defeat, setting up a great story for a West Division showdow.

18.) Saturday Nov 3rd Saskatchewan.  Looking to shake off the defeat and polish their systems. A focused and determined Lions lay the wood to the Green Riders.

Recently Arland Bruce went onto a local radio show and boasted that the Leos will go 18-0. While I may not be as bold, all the pieces are in place for a fantastic season.

It’s a long season and the only sure thing about it is that I go into complete Cowboy mode when I examine the Stampeders.

I believe I used every old-west term available in their matchups.

And for that I apologize.
