CFL 2012 Betting Preview – The BC Lions aren’t the favourites?

Leo’s easiest path in the West?

Get ready CFL fans!

With the weather finally cooperating on the west coast it reminds us that Football season is just around the corner. For BC Lions fans there appears to be plenty to look forward to ahead of the 2012 season.

But a glance at the Bodog preseason odds reveals an interesting fact – the Lions are not the favorites to win the 100th edition of the Grey Cup!

Let’s take a look at the 2012 Grey Cup Futures, and the eight teams and their odds of winning it all!

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 4/1

The early favorites this year. Can the addition of Henry Burris make that much of a difference? It was only the middle of last year that he lost his starting job in Calgary to Drew Tate!

B.C. Lions 9/2

The Lions are inexplicably second choice from Bodog. Sure they lost a couple of pieces on defense and sure Wally Buono left the sidelines. But Buono clone Mike Benevides already has a terrific grasp of what is expected in BC.

And we can’t forget about BC’s offense.

Travis Lulay just may emerge as the CFL MVP this year with Arlan Bruce and Geroy Simon still there to make him look good.

The Lions are as close to a lock as I have ever seen to come out of the West and in one game (the Grey Cup) there is nobody I trust more than Travis Lulay to lead my team!

Calgary Stampeders 5/1

The Stamps should be BC’s biggest threat in the West with Drew Tate as the starting pivot and Jon Cornish ready to assume a bigger role.

Travis Lulay

The Lions are inexplicably second choice from Bodog.

Calgary is a nice team but lack the completeness of the Lions.

Montreal Alouettes 5/1

With Anthony Calvillo, it is hard to count this team out isn’t it?

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 11/2

The East has gotten a whole lot stronger during the offseason but I am not sure that Winnipeg has!

Toronto Argonauts 13/2

The Argos added an enormous missing piece in the form of Ricky Ray. They could be the surprise of the East this year!

Edmonton Eskimos 8/1

Get ready for a long year Eskimos fans! Without any marquee names on the roster, they will likely scare nobody!

Saskatchewan Roughriders 9/1

The Riders aren’t getting a whole lot of respect but they do have a quality offense and decent defense.

While they certainly aren’t a threat to the Lions or Stampeders, I think they are better than the Eskimos!
